Hi,

I have a cannondale carbon-fiber fork, with alloy dropouts. One of the drop-outs is squished (bent) closed, so that the axle won't fit into the fork anymore. I am wary of simply bending it back - I am afraid that the alloy drop-out will fail catastrophically.

Can this be safely repaired? Can the drop-out be replaced, or is the fork ruined?

BikeEngine,
I would ABSOLUTELY NOT attempt to do anything myself. Take it to the shop where you got it. They may be able to do something or send it back to the mfr for evaluation/repair/replacement. Even if it is not under warranty, they might do a little something for you. Too much rides on that little piece of metal to take any chances with it.
Regards,
Raymond

RainmanP,

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking. Just thought I would run it by some other folks.

Thanks!

Nope. that fork is shot.
BTW, the term dropout only refers to the rear.

So... _what_ do you call the "front drop-out"?
