Classic & Vintage - C&V Find of a different(but still cycling related) sort.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So, last night on my way home from a friend's house the clamp on my Thule Peloton mount failed, causing my Rockhopper to fall over on my roof. Luckily it became entangled in the custom little red wagon rooftop carrier I made, and did not fall onto the highway. The bike is fine, but the wagon and the bike mount were both knackered.

I went to find a new mount and realized the exorbitant price tag they carried, until I remembered a friend of mine had one of these in his rather extensive collection of VW odds and ends:

Yes, that is an unused VW Jetta Trek Edition rack and pair of mounts(everything was still wrapped in plastic when I got it)! I was super excited to get it, and I look forward to using it. I'm also starting to look for a set of VW Jetta Trek Edition seats to install in my Golf, but they might be harder to find.

Just thought I'd share!

Yup, I've been wanting mounts like those for a while. It'll let me take my Schwinn more places that I couldn't before because fenders and fork-mount carriers don't mix.

Just don't forget to take the bikes off of the rack before you drive into the garage...

There are two types of roof rack owners. Those that have and those that will.

I want a roof rack for my cube. But I don't own a garage, so it may be against the rules.

Not with more than 2 passengers or bikes that have fenders/racks & extras. The car is not rated for towing, so adding a hitch and carrier might not be a good idea. I tried strapping my saris bones to the back door, and the flex of the metal was scary, I won't be doing that again.

hmmm well thanks for that info, I was leaning towards a cube since I thought you could just put two full bikes in the back (assuming it's just you and one passenger)

Then there's the third type, like me, who park their car outdoors.

That's a sweet roof rack. There's a thread on a Subaru forum I follow where everyone shows off their roof racks. There's a lot of sweet bikes in that thread.

And those who street park and will never have that problem!

I do have a garage, it is just 40 miles from where I live and has my Porsche 356B in it. The Golf only goes inside when it is broken.

I have an interior bike rack with fork mounts for two cycles inside of my '06 Pontiac Vibe (same as the Toyota Matrix). You still have to remove the seatpost, but it's not that much of a hassle really. I friggin' love the setup and the car.
