Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Heya :) Looking to get back into street fixies...need advice

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hello everyone!
Looking to see where everyone is getting there fixie parts for street use. I used to have a nice Bianchi I rode for Marian University but wasn't a big track rider then. Finally back into cycling again with my Cervelo S2 and looking for a fun fixie to ride around campus, I love the fun of fixies on the street.
So, questions;
Where is everyone buying their parts?
What's the best way to start out with a street fixie?
Any other advice is helpful, just looking to have some fun jetting around campus
Thanks ;)

And please stop calling it a "fixie". "Fixie" and "Fixed Gear" use the same number of syllables.
Glad that you are riding again.

But fewer consonants. ;) I have no problem with the term fixie and use it all the time. Why hate on it?

Hipster swagggg
But really, I hear it a lot from the hipsters around here, and I prefer to say fixed gear so as to set myself apart a bit, since I sort of consider myself a more serious cyclist than them.

"fixie" sounds like a toy. say, from wal-mart...
"fixed-gear" makes it sound like a tool. like "circ-saw"..

Ah, now I see where the problem is. The people around here that I would put the hipster label on, are typically more serious cyclists than I am. ;)

Every time I pass or get passed by someone on a fg with street clothes on the road: "Nice Fixie Bro."
... they get NFB'd. (also my sdfixed screen name).
Not everyone takes it as a compliment.

TMonk, I've been reading around vista and oceanside lately. It'd be hilarious to run into you.

This is a college campus though. The hipsters around here are actactually hipsters[/I], in the fullest and truest sense of the word. It is funny though to watch them spinning and trying to go sorta fast.

who's not a hipster? I was called a hipster while wearing a blank white t-shirt and blue jeans. It must be the glasses, facial hair, and all too practical bicycle.

To me, it's always funny :D.
It's the response on the other end that's highly variable.

hipster.
I plan on riding into work tomorrow with on my fixed gear with a messenger bag.
You might think that the shiny shaved legs, matching team kit and matching shades (Spy) would make me exempt from hipster shout outs. It still happens sometimes.
No one is safe.
