I love my cable lock- I've had the thing forever. It is very long- enough to go around two bikes through their wheels and whatever I'm locking them to. (I've locked my bike and a friend's together around a chain-link fence pole). But, it is very stiff. Cold weather makes that even worse.

How do you guys carry your cable locks?

I've seen some wrapped around frame tubes, but that would take forever to undo and redo whenever I needed to lock up. I always make sure to put the cable through both wheels because my front is a quick-release and I've heard that wheels are stolen pretty often. On the other hand I don't think my town has a lot of thieves, based on the number of bikes I've seen NOT locked up. I still don't want mine riding off without me.

Edit: and I completely misspelled the title because I was trying to do two things at once. That should be where* of course.

Handelbar bag on one bike, trunk bag on the other. It usually just hangs off the trunk bag while riding so I don't have to open up the bag all the time. having a small bag on a bike can be handy for other items, like a flat kit, band aides, chapstick etc.

I have to finish my current project (homemade ScotteVest (http://www.scottevest.com/v3_store/New_Travel_Vest.shtml) jacket) for my husband, then I get to play with the fabric I got AGES AGO to make bike toys with. One idea is a handlebar bag with the intent to store the lock there, but I wasn't sure about it- I'd have to get a new headlight. I's like to make basket liners too for folding rear baskets, but I'd have to buy the baskets first. I didn't get presents.

Trunk bag. I only use it when I'm on the mountain bike.

I loop one end of the cable through the left rail of my saddle, slip the shackle through that loop, then loop the other end of the cable onto the shackle and close the padlock.

A 6' Double loop cable goes in the front pannier ..

I have an armored segmented sleeve cable lock too, 2 kinds.
On-guard hangs from my handlebar, or as it fits, goes inside
my Brompton Touring bag..

Specialized made a different kind , roll up to be pretty small.
so I modded the frame clip to hang from the top tube.. touring bike
cage for water on the seat tube , where they intended the clip to go..

neither of those are 6 foot long.. though combine with the double loop kind when needed
