Sky Boyer is moving his shop, Velo Cult, and staff to Portland.

As he told Bicycle Retailer and Industry News: “We’re pretty much a Portland store in the wrong city. We’re very commuter-oriented, very city-oriented.”

Velo Cult was at the center of one kind of bicycle culture in San Diego -- an urban community of folks who were happy to pedal their bikes from some place, to some place, without having to change into racing garments.

"This is just the latest sign that Portland's bike economy is thriving and that people continue to move their lives and businesses here based solely on our respect and culture of bicycling.

San Diego has the climate... but as I have often mentioned, So Cal worships car culture.

The sad thing is that San Diego could really boost it's tourism by merely leveraging the natural climate that is conducive to cycling... all it would take is a serious dedication to cycling.

But where motoring and freeways get millions, cycling in San Diego gets pennies.

If there is any bright spot, it is that, the bike shop is only moving. Sadly it will be too far for some at the new location, but wonderful for others.

Sounds like if you wanted to open a bike store in SD, that there's a pattern with modifications that might work.
