Im waiting for the bus near PCC(Pasadena City College), there's a guy riding his bike on the sidewalk. Cop on a motorbike, orders him to stop, starts talking to him(cant hear the convo, b/c it's across the street), there's a guy going Eastbound on Colorado on his bike(separate guy), the guy makes an illegal left turn into another lane, and proceeds to ride on. Cop on motorbike, still looks to be talking to first guy. Then, out of nowhere, we see the cop speed off, and starts to try to find the second guy. This is where it gets funny. We lose the second guy, and "all of a sudden" he's right in front of us, riding the exact opposite way he was earlier, laughing, and says outloud" fooled him huh?" Everyone starts laughing, and we see the cop sitting there trying to look for him. The cop finally realizes the guy's going in the opposite direction, then tries catching up to him. Both are gone. Bus fuinally shows up, I get on, about 10 seconds later, I see the guy on the bike, dart away in the opposite direction(original direction he was going to), shaking his head, and laughing. Cop was nowhere to be found. Even the bus driver commented on it.

Spreading general good will toward cyclists as a member of the public who appreciate a cop being made the fool. Who'd have thought you could use a bike to do that, too?

Something cycling related? That leads to humor, even among those who don't or rarely cycle? Excellent advocacy.

Exactly. i thought it was genius. The second guy(illegal turn guy), knew the cop was probably going to try to get him, which is why it was genius that he sped away, and hid, and then went in a totally different direction, so the cop couldnt track him down. It was pretty funny. People who arent even cyclists, were laughing @ the cop and saying "right on".

I don't get it. A rider intentionally makes an illegal left turn, seemingly just to get the LEO's attention, then changes direction twice just to show he can "outsmart" the LOE. Hmm, seems like he was making an ass of himself, wasting the LEO's time, taxpayers' money, and adding to the bad perception of bike rifers if only that one LEO's eyes who can then go out and harrass lots of other cyclists because he now has a confirmed opinion that bike riders are all asshats. :notamused:

The fact that cops are so inclined to act based on prejudices is a major part of why I, like many other people do not like them; and therefore find amusement in the OP story.

fun story

No, he didnt "intentionally do it to get attention". The timing just happened to coincide with the cop stopping the initial rider, who was on the sidewalk.

Rider #1 was stopped for riding his bike on the sidewalk. Rider #2, was @ the light, and was already about to go through the light, and made an illegal left turn(I dint think he saw the cop until he was into the turn), it looked as if the cop "missed" rider 2 doing so, b/c he was talking to rider 1. Rider 2 is out of sight by now. Cop tries to "catch up" to rider 2, by continuing on to where he turned onto(the road). Rider 2 realized he was about to get busted probably, and made a break for it.

He resurfaces a few seconds later by the bus I was waiting for, going in the opposite direction he was initlally going to. The cop then I 8think* saw him, and tried, once again, to chase him down. I dont think he did so.

Rider 2 was laughing, b/c he apparently outsmarted the cop and probably hid somewhere, where the cop couldnt get to him.
