Tandem Cycling - Best bike stand for assembling tandem?

Hi folks, it's been an eternity since participating on here, and so many thanks to people who helped me think about and learn all about tandems at the time. Life gets in the way sometimes, time flies, and meanwhile a great tandem frame and all the parts can sit tucked away in boxes.....

That said, this weekend I'm going to start the build process. Looking at my Park PRS-20, I am wondering if it's going to do the job. The boom tube is freakin' HUGE.

Suggestions? If needed I'll just get the wheels on and I can make due from there, but it sure would be nice to have it in the air for convenience.

Find a cheap alloy seat post and place it in the stoker position seat tube. Use it to hold the frame in the stand and if you have a fork on place a five gallon bucket upside down rest the fork on it. You can then adjust height on the stand as you add wheels etc. Most decent stands will work this way, certainly your Park.

unfortunately not the prs 20. it doesn't have a clamp, and while great, it's designed for road bike with front wheel removed and fork blades secured on a stand-mounted axle/quick release.

I use a Ultimate Work stand otherwise known as the Feedback. Very happy with it. Clamp stoker seatpost and place front wheel in a bucket if need to raise the front. I have had a 40 lb tandem suspended only by a seat post clamp but do not usually work with it that way. It is also tall enough to hold the tandem at shoulder height if you like it that high.

The picture above does not show the full spread of the legs. They actually spread almost flat making a very wide and stable base. Look at the specs. Other brands with similar design most likely work just as well.

Points to look for. Three wide legs. The wider the base the more stable the stand is. A good clamp that is easy to fasten and release. Do not but a two legged stand for a tandem.

cool thanks waynesulak. i looked around a bit online and took a chance on a feeback pro elite last night. hopefully i guessed right and that'll do the trick.

I use the Performance Spin Doctor Pro G3 work stand. It will hold the tandem fine but if I am working on the rear I will ususally prop the front tire on something so the entire weight of the bike is not on the stand. I don't think the weight is an issue but the lenght of the tandem if the whole bike is held by the stand can be.

We concur with the Ultimate bike stand.
Assembled over 100 tandems and used the Ultimate. Works great!
