Going to be making our very first trip to Phoenix/Tucson area from the 11th to the 17 of Feb. We would need to rent bikes for any sort of ride so are there any suggestions of a good place in the Scottsdale area and what is the terrain and what is the general weather conditions that time of year. Gotta be better than here in the PNW

The weather should be gorgeous then, you can expect highs in the 70's with sunny skies, however i'd bring some warm clothes just in case... nice weather certainly isn't guaranteed ;)

There's a lot of great riding down here, granted for road riding i've only really explored the NE area of the valley myself. Not sure what kind of riding/level/distance you do now but check out strava.com for some ideas of where people are riding down here in the valley. I'd definitely recommend checking out the carefree/cave creek area.

I can't imagine sunny and 70's in Feb. I will be more than happy to experience them. Thanks for the info.

Terrain can vary throughout the area. North and east of Scottsdale the area can get pretty hilly. Depending where in Scottsdale you'll be, it could be quite flat.

Overall, the area has great bike lanes...and access to some great biking in mountains and deserts. There are also a bunch of group rides most weekend mornings if you're looking for that.

We are staying in what they call Old town Scottsdale, whatever that means so I have no idea what to expect but as long as its warm and sunny it will beat what we are going to be dealing with tomorrow here in the PNW

You'll be well-positioned to go out to the Beeline Highway if you want, and I think there's some good bike shops in Old Town where you could rent bikes.

Depending which way you want to do the Beeline (up or down), you could make a big loop. Out McKellips from Scottsdale to the Beeline (SR 87), take that up to Shea Blvd, make a left (go west), go through Fountain Hills (you can detour on Palisades if you want to see the fountain), then back probably via Hayden to Old Town.

Are there bike lanes or all street riding?
