Just make sure as you work on technique it leans towards high cadence/low torque until your 'fine' support muscles are good and strong. It'll save on your knees. Holding good form is really important. Speed will increase as a natural outgrowth. Go on group rides w/roadies...they'll teach you good and fast. Former runner here as well.
Btw, welcome to the forums!

Thank you i have 2 treks ones a little to small for me, but has shocks and is a mountain bike and my dad gave me his old bike which is a trek that is my size; so suspension though so i don't know if i can mountain bike on it.
Also i need to look up proper form. I'm sitting here thinking its stupid that there is a proper form to ride, but just like running, it makes a difference. Is the best thing to do watch you tube videos on proper form?
Also I have alot of snow here atm. Some people don't shovel there sidewalks and the streets are even worse along the edges. Any suggestions on what you do in the cold wintery weather.
