Hello,

My name is Michael Sparks,

I just bought a new Yellow Trek 2200. My wife forced me to do it, she wants to compete in triatholons and wants a riding partner for the bike portion.

She rides a QT tequilo.

Anyhow, I'm 32 and have ridden a Iron Horse MB (1992 model) for the last 12 years. I have always wanted a good road bike that I can move out on.

I guess it all started back when I was a teenager and had a 10 speed that I delivered papers with. I entered 1 race I think it was like 8-10 miles. I finished it, but didn't do very well. Though I have always wanted to compete in other races I never had a good bike.

Well now I have one. I don't necessarly want to win, just compete for fun!! (ya right):D

I also ride motorcycles, I have a BMW and ride between 10,000 and 15,000 a year. I hope to incoporate a mix of commuting on both machines to and from work. This should help me save boo coo on gas money (I drive a BIG OLE F150) that gets about 15mpg. Though I also have a VW TDI that averages about 45 mpg with a high of 57mpg!!!

I am not a total environment nut, but I do care about our environment and want to preserve it for the future, hence the reason I also sell synthetic lubricants that can reduce used motor oil with oil change intervals from 25,000 miles to over 100,000 miles. Also I am into organic gardening and market an organic fertiliztion program.

Anyhow, I hope to use my bicycle with the joy of riding in mind but also get other benifits out of it.

Lastly, I'm in the Army Reserves (13+ years) My knees cannot take the constant running required to pass a yearly PT test. So I am hopeing that I can maintaine cardio endurance with my bikeing and do as little running as possible.

I look forward to interacting with the forum!!

Hello Michael, welcome to the forums. Glad to hear about the new bike, post some pictures if you get a chance! Also, let us know how the tri-training goes! Are you planning on doing one or just your wife? My wife did her first last spring, but she'd like to do another if her knee cooperates! Me, I'm mostly a try athlete, I'll try anything! J/k, I'm a dedicated mt. biker but don't get to ride as often as I'd like, so I'm now becoming a roadie. Been into cycling for as long as I can remember, BMX in my youth, then some mt. biking in college and some road riding, then seriously mt. biking and now more road again! I just can't decide!

Anyways, keep posting and I hope you stick around!

p.s. Ford? YUCK, I'm a CHEVY Man!

Hey,

I have no plans to do any triathelons. Just want to get some good and fun riding in!

I'll get pics of my bike here real soon, the weather has been kind of yuky as of late and have also been getting ready for a M/C trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway!

AS to the the Ford Vs Chevy thing, well...... In the end both of them are tops in my book, heck and Dodge has come a long way too.

Thanks for the warm welcome

For now I will ignore the Ford part.

If I understand your email address, the flute and saxophone? (I played the sax for about a month and didn't care for it too much). Brass and precussion are the key instruments to band. If you took woodwinds out, you wouldn't tell the difference! Just look at Drum and Bugle Corps.

I was and still am a low brass person (baritone, trombone, tuba) at heart. Everybody relies on the tuba for the bass and tuning!

I ride my motorcyle to work when it's hot outside. All the other times I typically ride my bicycle (even in the rain).
