Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

We just were given a 1952? Raleigh 4 speed bike from our 93 year old Uncle and would like to know more about it. Does anybody know how to find out more about an old, very nice bicycle?

First thing to do is check the Sturmey Archer hub for a date, probably in format like 52 4 (which would indicate it was manufactured in April, 1952). Also, check serial numbers. They may be on the top of the seat tube, on the rear dropouts (where the rear wheel attaches), or under the bottom bracket shell (where the cranks are mounted).
Here's a 1951 Raleigh catalog (http://sheldonbrown.com/retroraleighs/catalogs/1951-england/index.html) to peruse.
Perhaps the folks in the Classic & Vintage forum (http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php/181-Classic-amp-Vintage) can help.
