General Cycling Discussion - Smelly gloves

So my gloves usually have plenty of life left in 'em when I replace them. The only reason I replace them is because they usually begin to smell so bad that no amount of washing can get rid of the disgusting skin under band-aid smell.

Does anyone know of any methods to get the stink out of gloves or ways to prevent it to begin with?

Are there any gloves made of a material that does not absorb odor?

Wash them regularly, not just after months and months of use.

I've owned a pair of Specialized gloves for nearly six years now. They're worn regularly in the spring, autumn and winter. They're also washed regularly. They don't smell.

Regular washing is the prevention you seek.

+1 ... just don't put them IN the dryer. I use gel gloves and they wash just fine.

I wash all my cycling clothes by hand. Put them in the washer to spin for a minute. Hang to dry. I have Pearl Izumi gel gloves that look like new after 3000 miles.

1. Close them so the catchy part of the velcro is not sticking out.

2. Throw them in the wash machine with all the rest of your cycling stuff and non-cycling stuf.

3. Use Borax + detergent.

4. Lay flat to dry.

If you think they're "too far gone", then soak it in a bucket with detergent. You might have to soak it overnight. Then rinse, and sun dry it outside. If that doesn't work, then repeat the soaking and sun drying again. If that doesn't work, and since I am near the Pacific Ocean, I would go surfing with them and let the ocean water do its job on them. I have yet to get my surfing rash guards smelling bad. Surfers don't stink, only cyclist stink after the exercise.

I wash my gloves a few times a year.

I toss mine in the washer or rare occasion, they come out just fine.

I sweat in the heat and my nose runs in the cold. I don't want residue from either fermenting between rides.

I was them with dish detergent every few months.

I just avoid wearing gloves when I don't have to. :)
