Mountain Biking - What are the trade-offs of the power setting on these brake levers?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have a set of THESE (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shimano-Deore-LX-ST-M570-Mega-9-Rapidfire-9-spd-shifter-brake-lever-EXC-J-/380379616893#ht_4716wt_754) LX brake lever/shifters. So, as the thread title states, what are the trade-offs of using them in the higher brake power position? Surely there are some or they would just make them with that as standard, right? I'm running a BB7 in front and a lower end(weaker) Tektro in rear and was thinking of running them on different power settings to even things out, but don't want to end up with really different brake feel or something if it's going to make a big difference.

Hey, try them at their extreme settings and see how you like them.

the rear brake doesn't do very much to slow you down anyway (before it locks up), so set it up so you really have to grab the lever hard to lock up the back wheel WHILE you're hard on the front brake.
the H position is for cantilevers/ road disk brake calipers (pulls less cable)
the L position is for v brakes/ mountain disk brake calipers (pulls more cable)
