Hey y'all,

This is up on CL... they are asking $1600 obo for it, which seems a bit high considering a new build can be had for a couple hundred bucks more.

What do you think would be a reasonable number to throw at him?

Here's the listing:

2008 Santa Cruz Heckler - Medium
Seldom used. Ridden lightly. Serviced regularly.
Had it tuned up to sell (no rides after tune up).
Some normal wear and tear (scratches and but no dents or other flaws).
Comes as is with everything (including shock pump) but NO pedals.
Awesome bike!

Components:
Juicy Five disk brakes,
WTB Rocket saddle,
Raceface Evolve AM handlebars
Raceface Evolve XC seat post,
Mavic XM 117 rims, Shimano XT hubs,
New Geax Gato tires,
XT components,
Fox Float R front suspension (150mm travel)
Fox Front suspension (not sure of model I think "Talas RL", the stickers are gone)
Truvativ Stylo Cranks

Thanks for the help!

DS

Try to talk him down like you would with any sale, but it sounds like a good deal to me (I'd take it at $1600). Frame makes me super jelly, love the Heckler frame. The components solid but not excessive for the bike by any means, the wheelset is a little cheap for the bike IMO but not something to worry about, maybe just a little heavier than a nicer set.

This is all given that the bike is in good condition (no cracks/dents, well maintained). I didn't do much extensive research so give it a few hours for someone more knowledgable to chime in if they know something I don't (certain frames/components prone to failure, etc) but it looks like a good find to me.

I think its a tad high for an 08. The name and rep is solid and worthy of drool. But $1,250 sounds more square to me.

If you pay more than $1K, you just screwed yourself. The Heckler IS a good frame, but your first impression is right, you can build one with YOUR choice of parts for not much more. Plus, hey... it's four years old. You aren't the original owner, so you have no warranty (it may already be expired, SC's warr?). Not worth the risk, to me.

Great advice... thanks!
I am looking at the D AM build, which is around $1900.00 new.
Looks like it would benefit from some upgrades... suggestions?
Suppose I could find a used one on CL and do the same...

Anyone have an opinion on this?

Thanks again... you guys rule.
