What group would have been on my 85 Falcon? I love the ride,(531C tubeset),and would like to restore it parts and all if possible. Any input is appriciated, Thanks.

I'm guessing Campagnolo super Record. Is it red with a white panel?

Thanks classic1, the Falcon has been resprayed its original white and is currently set up with a 600 group.
If it is a mixed tubeset frame or has a straight gauge main triangle, either of which would be consistent with your horizontal, rather than diagonal, "531" decal, it might have come with Simplex or Huret derailleurs.

I've seen photos of the team bikes and team replicas in old magazines with Record equipment. I'm failry sure they painted the 85's red (earlier ones were light metallic blue). This doesn't sound like one though.

More info. I found a stack of old Winning magazines in the shed. There was an ad for a 86 Falcon, 531C tubing, silver or gun metal in colour, with Campag Victory components on it.

Thanks again, for the insights into the Falcons origins. As I suspected,(small Campy decal on frame),no Shimano.
Im assuming the year from the serial# FA085.
I get to hunt down some old Campy now! ;)

Falcon: I have a nice Ernie Clementa and it is complete Nuovo Record. I received the complete bicycle for $300.00 at a bike shop that traded and took consignments. I am just about ready to put it back together afted an extensive cleaning and paint retouch. Bruce

I dont think the 600 group is out of place. My Falcon came with some 600, but it isnt quite as nice as yours.

When my nephew was about six, I took him to ride his bike as a local running track, as there are no cars to worry about. A lady was circling around the track on a Falcon that looked exactly like "brand new", but had components that looked like around the '70's.
I was guessing, from her age, that the bike might have been passed down to her from her mother. I was tempted to ask her what she knew about the bike, but I didn't. I kinda suspect she may have thought she was riding "just an old bike"...
I wonder how many of those great '70's road bikes are hidden away in the attics and garages of aging "baby boomers" across America.

As someone who works at a university, I see a bike at least once a week that is older than the person riding it, which is kinda cool. Often the bikes don't look particularly well-cared-for--leather saddles that are cracked or sagging; rusty frames; Biopace chainrings, etc. But the bikes still work well enough to get someone around campus. I even saw one of these classic Raleighs chained to a lampost not too long ago. The beauty of that bike really sparked an interest in Raleighs for me. (If you click the image it should look a lot better)

Loks like a Tourist - complete with full chainguard B-73 saddle/trampoline.

I have an aunt and uncle with a matching set of Trek's from '85, full campy, maybe 50 miles. In storage, nearly "thrown out" a few times. I'm begging them to let me o'haul them and urge them to ride.
That Falcon would look great all done up - I've seen a few, I like the graphics.
