I found a brand new 2003 for $550.

The store said it cost $800 back in the day and they giving it at cost.
Are they?

Or what else is comparable or better in that price?

tks

To find out the details check this site. There are a few variables in the Road Warrior range so I don't know which you are talking about.
eg. http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2003&Brand=Cannondale&Model=Road%20Warrior%20500&Type=bike

BUT, I'd be more incline to look at a current model like http://www.cannondale.com/2012/bikes/recreation-urban/recreation/quick/2012-quick-5-21008

Define brand new please : New still in store ( with warranty ) or LIKE brand new used ( as is ) 550.00 Dollars.
This Model :
2003 Cannondale Road Warrior 900

http://allcdale.com/cannondale_specifications.php?Year=2003&Model=Road%20Warrior%20900

I assume that either way ( in store or not ) there must only be one ? Does it fit you, have you rode it, do you like it ?
If you can answer yes to all three questions above, and it comes with warranty. ( YES )
If LIKE new with ( NO ) warranty then would say over priced. You left a lot of what IF's in your post, so I tried my best to cover them.
( not even going to try and compare bikes with these specs, till you respond to this post ). Hope this helps, Richard : )

It is new in a box to be put together, no real warranty?

What is the warranty on these anyway.

I just saw the Quick 5 which I think is comparable, list $550

I just recently purchase my new bike from bikesdirect.com. It's a 2010 Fuji Absolute 2.0. It has the same features as the bike you're looking at, but cost much less. It retail about $800-$900 too. Plus, it has a carbon fork.

Not even close, Atlus rear DR vs Tiagra , and the whole list could go on. But take a look at the one ChowChow posted the link to. Richard

Ok that Fugi deal has a big disclaimer they are re-routed models, maybe they're great but that is the only dealer that sells those.

I searched around for a shop that had them but none is my area.

I went to a loacl shop they had new Treks, I jumped on a 7.3 and my wife tried a 7.3 also.

She liked that model alot.

They also had a lightly used Cannondale 400 with a computer storage bags it looked pristine the dealer claimed it had 47 miles on it, it look new.

I thought it blew away the 7.3.

We then went to another shop got on Giant Escape 2, we both came away feeling like it was sub standard.

Back we went and cut a cash deal for Cannondale and 2011 7.3 for $885

tks

Not sure of the year of the 400, I know they stopped making them in '07

Is there a year & serial number stamped on the frame somewhere?

Same ? on the Trek 7.3

There might be a way of telling like that, but I have always had to start just by looking at the components that's on it, verse's the color that it came in that year. Till I could narrow it down, tried looking up your 400, looks like a great bike that was why I was wondering. Richard ( is it one of these ? ) Link : http://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2004&Brand=Cannondale&Model=Comfort+400&Type=bike or http://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2005&Brand=Cannondale&Model=Adventure+400&Type=bike or the bike referenced at the start of the thread http://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2002&Brand=Cannondale&Model=Road+Warrior+400&Type=bike
I have an older Cannondale catalog if you really wanted to know the year. Sorry for the second bike you had to settle for a Trek.
( Just Joking !!!! ) Nice shopping anyway..
