I originally started riding in March of 1990 when I had got tired of being overweight and out of shape. I bought a hybrid, a Trek 750, and started riding. I remember my first 5 mile rides and how much it hurt. But, I really liked being on the road, so I stuck with it. A few months later, I got a Cannondale road bike a started increasing the mileage. That September, after 1500 miles on the road and losing 50 lbs, I road my first century.

I kept riding for the next several years and did a couple more centuries. Then job demands took over, and I gradually got away from riding, pretty much stopping after 1998. Well, after getting back to where I was 12 years ago, I just bought a Trek 2200 and I'm back in the saddle. It's actually not as hard as I thought it would be, but I have a long way to go. My goal is a century this fall, just before I turn 49. One thing that I did not lose is my love of the open road. Wish me luck.

Regards,
Daniel

Your story matches mine pretty close. I just turned 50, need to loose about 20 lbs, and recently started riding again after buying Trek 2200. Good luck and let's track our progress.

Sound good, Hotrod. I'm down about 18 lbs and want to lose another 20. I did a 27 mile ride last Saturday and averaged 15.5 mph on rolling Virginia backroads. Keep in touch.
