It's not stealing if it is abandoned. The definition of abandoned is not clear, but in this case they abandoned it. You have no right to chain your crap to a post in a public area of a city and expect people to respect your property right to it forever.

Took quite a while for anything to be removed from the bike.
Around 200 days in, was the U-lock stolen or removed by the owner? That's puzzling.

On day 211 there's a piece of paper left taped to the seat - presumably with a note about the bike having been left for so long. Then both the note and the U-lock disappear and after that parts slowly start being taken from the bike and eventually the whole thing is gone. Odd that the lock seems to be the first item to vanish - unless it was taken by the owner/photographer.

Frankly I'd expect just about any piece of personal property left abandoned that long in a public place to disappear.

Dunno if I would consider that stealing seeing how long it took for stuff to start disappearing. I don't necessarily condone what happened to that bike, but it was for all practical purposes abandoned. I suspect there are some parts of NYC that if it had been parked they wouldn't have gotten the chance to take ANY pictures...

I just watched it again, they never said anything about stealing.

Somebody did this as an 'experiment'; saw it elsewhere as '365 days in the life of a bike', or something like that.

Wonder what the difference would be if it were a new, carbon bike...
