I would have no problems riding a kona bike, they make a wide range of bikes, from semi-entry to pro grade. What model / bike are you looking at?

I think they are great bikes. Kevin G is the Kona Big Kahuna. He should have a lot to say about them!:)

My friend has an older Kona (lovely bike..hard tail/fork). When I was looking around town, I didn't see any so I went to the shop she got hers at (they still had a KONA sign in the window) but they don't sell them anymore! I asked why and the owner said that they switched over to Giant instead because you could get the same components and a good bike for $100 or so less. The Giants were nice, but I have to say that the Kona's look better (very styling). This particular bikeshop is in a ritzy part of town and has a good reputation....so I trust their opinion to some degree, but my friend is forever loyal to Kona it seems. My husband got the Giant though and it is a great bike! As for me, I got a Trek.

I dont know if i'll every buy a bike new again, you can find much more bike for the money going used. :)

BTW, when did the chute change from a triple clamp to a single crown forks? All the chutes i see around here have the triple clamp setup, i know they came stock that way a few years ago.

Depends on what type of riding your doing. For urban riding, i think the chute would be a great bike, however i dont do urban riding, so im not the one to ask :)

I think Rich has a Kona MTB. He'd be a good person to ask.

I have a Kona cyclocross bike. The build quality is excellent and the frame is simply outstanding. It's an Easton Ultralight taperwall frame, admirably rigid laterally with a very nice vertical compliance. If their MTBs are anywhere near as good, they must be great!

The Chute or the Roast will work fine for what you are doing. The biggest difference I see is brakes. Looks like one has Hayes and the other Avid, but that doesn't matter, both are great.

With $4,000 I'd think the sky's the limit! Have you looked at the GT Ruckus 1.0? Don't forget the Rocky Mountain Flow, K2 Funky Monkey and tons more that I can't remember off the top of my head...

Anyways, if I had that much money, I'd spend about half, and save the other half for future upgrades!!

I do love kona bikes. They seem a little pricey for what you get. But they sure look great and look very beefy :)

Kona bikes are great. I have owned three, my wife owns one, most of my friends own at least one or are planning to buy one. For an urban hardtail they have 4 models to choose from the Scab, the Stuff, the Roast and the Chute. All great bikes with well thought out components and bombproof frames. Below is a pic of my buddys '01 Roast, he is 6'1" and over 200 lbs and this bike has taken everything he has thrown at it, huge drops to flat, dirt jumping, trials type stuff and BMX style street riding.

There is something about the bike in the picture above that I love. The whoel setup is very appealing to me for some reason. Oh, and no i'm not that weird.

Hi there,

Yep, if you're urban riding then the Roast is probably the bike for you :D

If you were interested in something a little lighter, then either the Cinder Cone/ Kula/ Explosif may be worth a look.

Take Kev G's advice above and you won't go far wrong

Don't forget thats canadian coin. But still, $4000, it would be perfect if you gave me half, and we could both have a decent bikes.;) Oh, and don't worry, they would probably be konas.
