I'm writing an article that attempts to answer the question, "Where do stolen bikes go? (In NYC)" I've heard lots of anecdotal answers: they go to delivery guys; they go to (a few) bike messengers; they go to junkies. Am looking for anyone who knows a little more about the pipeline for stolen bicycles in NYC. Are there theft rings? What does a thief do with a bike immediately after stealing it?
If you have an answer, or part of an answer, please send me an email at: mindlin at nytimes dot com.
Best,
Alex
PS--If anyone knows of a store where hot bikes are or might be sold in NYC, please let me know about that too. Obviously, I'm not a buyer.
