It is winter and I need some gear to mtb. What should I wear. I dont have alot of money so i would like to use bike gear I already own. I already have tights and a long sleeve jersey. What could I wear under those things and can I wear a heavy winter coat.

layers, layers, layers. you dont need expensive bike gear to stay warm. when its really cold, i like to have a t shirt, a long sleeve shirt, and 2 hoodies, and maybe an outer windbreaker. for legs, a wear tights and maybe a thick pair of pants. a few pairs of socks, and a good set of gloves and a hat for the fingers and face.

OMG, you need THAT much? What's "really" cold for you?....Im usually set in a hoodie and a jacket in any weather above -40*F....wind chill included.
Main key for this stuff is wearing thin warm layers. Get a wicking layer.....underarmor is nice, then a warm long sleeve, a vest, and a nice, light shell to keep from the wind. Dont really need the vest, but that and arm warmers would help.

Layering is key.
Okay this is my technique.
1)Tshirt
2)Thin shirt
3)Medium Sweater (not heavy nor light)
4) (if it's cold) Get a thin shirt, drape the sleeves over your shoulders onto your chest, and leave the chest on your back. This makes your collar warm and helps your neck warm up as well, and ALSO, it can be taken off easily if it's too warm, and you can put it on when it's cold!
Plus a helmet. My helmet has 7 holes in the top (skate helmet) so it's like a tuque. That's all there is to it.
less cotton you wear in the layers closest to the skin, the better.....

If you can't afford the UnderArmour stuff, go to Wal-Mart and try out the Starter "Star-Fit" stuff. It works almost as well but isn't quite as well-made. I'm cheap, so I use it and it works wonders.

Haha. The most I ever wear if its winter here is shorts, shinnies, t-shirt and a jumper. And a thin rain jacket if its rainy.

well for some people they have to wear their closet and some can wear less. ya gotta understand that it gets pretty f'in cold some places in winter months and not as severe in others. right now im ok with a t-shirt, hoodie, jeans, gloves, and hat.

i wear a down jacket with vents under the arms, a ski mask, and gloves. jacket gets too hot after a while and i just open the vents, if its still too much, i open the jacket from the top and bottom a little. If you want more winter riding tips, go to icebike.com it has tons of info on winter biking and that is partially how i got so good at it besides the fact that i have no car so i have no choice. i do like the crazy looks and questions i get when i ride all winter though.
