The messenger bag monkey, that is!
After three months of commuting and grocery getting with a large messenger bag I finally got fed up and ordered a Carradice SQR Tour. It arrived this morning from the UK, and I got it mounted immediately for a quick run down the foothills to a couple of shops.
What a relief it is!

Nice !!! Let us know how it works out.

Thanks! First real commute with it will be tomorrow. Next up, I should get a trailer for hauling bigger loads -- this can only handle 10 kilos.

So far I like the Carradice, but I keep bumping against the 16l limit -- at least the drawstring closure beneath the lid allows for some overstuffing. But I definitely need some more capacity, starting with a frame bag. Anyone have any experience with Revelate bags?

Head over to bikepacking.net if you don't get any replies here. I don't have any first-hand experience with them, but they are well thought of over there. As an alternative, if you are sewing-savvy and have a decent machine, a frame bag is not that hard to make. I have made 2 using info posted on the DIY forum on bikepacking.net.
Honestly, a frame bag doesn't hold that much, but I do carry some heavy items in mine (tool kit, lock, etc). Good luck!

Thanks for the tip. I'd like to use the Revelate bags to move some of the small everyday stuff from the Carradice, so I'll have the whole capacity of that bag for other stuff. Also finding that using both the messenger bag and the Carradice works well -- just put all of the heavy stuff in the latter and the light stuff in the former. Still, prefer to avoid the messenger bag whenever possible.
