Mountain Biking - looking for a good mt bike with bmx type handling

Im just getting back into biking its been a while im looking for a mtn bike with bmx type handling and light enough for the trails.Im on a budget of 600-800 dollars ideally,i know im probably looking at a hard tail just not sure what way to go.I used to ride a specialized hard rock years ago it wasnt really a good handling bike on trails.Any help is appreciated.

I would look at some of the 29er HT's. There are many in your budget. Check out Redline, Haro, GT and maybe some direct order places like BikesDirect.com. You will find the ride you are looking for

Something configured like scrub's new rig may suit your background and style quite a bit more.

29ers are all about holding momentum and running smooth lines. They rarely feel quite as "quick" as even their 26" counterparts. You definitely need a hardtail 26er at the largest. In which case I would buy one in your price range from yor favorite LBS.

Now, I love my 29er for the above reasons, but "BMX-like" is definitely not one of its qualities.

Something like a Kona Shred (http://www.konaworld.com/gravity_hardtail.cfm?content=shred)will have that kind of configuration but will be near your intended price range.

It'll handle slower and be less snappy than a BMX bike (obviously, it's got 26" wheels and a good bit of travel up front), though it'll also be a lot more forgiving. A little out of your pricerange, but not by a whole lot.

But still, you can do a lot on a 26" bike :D

Oh whoops, that bike D posted looks to be quite a bit steeper. Will probably be quicker handling than the NS Core that I posted. Core is still pretty frickin' sweet looking though, and is built to take a bunch of abuse, just will probably handle a bit slower. Looks like the wheelbase on the Core might be longer too, though I'm just eyeing it up, no hard numbers.

Re: Scrubs bike: Yah...I'm sure it will fit within the OP's 6-8bill budget.:lol:
