Foo - Stove-top burner preference and hand dominance ...

In the spirit of foo, I ask a serious question: What is your favorite stove-top burner? And are you right-handed or a south paw?

I'm right-handed and I always use the stove-top burner that is on the right and closest to me.

This is for hard-hitting, experimental research, mind you.:D

same as you in all respects

I have two sizes of burner in front and the same in back. I use the burner closest in size to the pan, front row first and then back rows. Or I'll put the slow cooking stuff in back and the higher maintenance cooking in front.

I'm a righty, and I usually use the front left burner, with the handle pointing to the center of the stove. Never really thought about it, but I can pick up the pan and flip whatever I'm cooking easier that way. Looking at my stove, the left front burner is worn a lot more than any of the other ones. It's a glasstop.

Same here, each burner is a different size. I use the front left the most because it fits most pans. Second used is the front right which is a large "rapid boil" burner I use for heating pasta water.

I'm about 60/40 righty/lefty, and the burner I use most is the toaster oven.

Well, it depends. Is the oven on? If so, I may use the burner that receives the oven exhaust (left rear) in the interest of using some of that heat for my pan.

My stove (http://www.amazon.com/MSR-SimmerLite-Stove/dp/B000YOFAHU) has only one burner

I am left handed but right eye dominant. So, yeah....

but seriously, this:

Our stove has four gas burners, all the same size.

I usually use the front left first.

Back left if the big burner. I use it when needed, otherwise I use back right, as it is a small burner and is it on the back row. Started this years ago when the boys were tiny to avoid hot burners and pots on the front of the cook top.

I am left handed and left footed.

I go by size. My right front burner is big enough to cook spagetti for an army.

I am right handed, ergo I prefer to use the ones on the right. But I also have kids who run, jump, wander around, so I also prefer the ones on the back (less chance for a kid to get burned). As a result, I use the right-back burner most of the time. If I have more than one pot at the same time, I follow this order:

1) Right-back
2) Left-back
3) Right-front
4) Left-front

If possible, I try to keep the number of burners down to one, by using other appliances like, Rice Maker, Microwave, Toaster Over and a Foreman Grill.

I'd have to say left front. But hte choice is environmental. To the right of the stove is the oven, to the left is countertop. If I'm actualy cutting or the like and adding to the pan the left front is a far better choice.

Camping I don't remember, but again the choice is forced. One burrner on the 2 burner stove is the primary, it has to be on first. I believe the stove is a Kampkraft, a coleman look alike that is older than I am.

I'm a size matcher as well.

I'm a righty and use all three operational burners equally. The rear left burner is the only I don't use because it's burst into flames from several oven fires (it's where the exhaust is located) and the burner is warped. But all the others are used pretty equally:

right back holds the frying pan, large dutch oven
right front makes rice, simmers sauces, steaming veggies
left front is stew, pasta, and an extra sauté pan

There are at least 2 burners used for dinner and breakfast.

Four gas burners of equal size. The order of preference is front right->front left->back right. I try to use no more than two at a time with the rear being used as a storage/staging area. And though I'm right handed, the reason the front right is the primary is a) it's closest to the sink and b) the left one has a hard time lighting.

Left handed, six burners. Corner burners are all different sizes and btu's so I match the pan/pot to the element. The two center burners probably get 80% of the duty although my favorite place to work is front left.

An efficiency freak :) (Me too.)

For about 12 years I was living in a rented duplex with the fridge and the stove jammed up against each other. There was no way to alter that unless we put the fridge in the dining area. I disabled the oven and did all my cooking on the side away from the fridge. Bad kitchen design.

Just a side note, it is always good to turn pot and pan handles so they don't stick out in front of the stove. Keeps kids from bumping into them, not to mention adults.

I'm right handed. I use the front left almost exclusively for two reason. First, it is in front, so it's closer. Second, the refrigerator is just to the right of the stove, and it seems to make sense to separate hot things from cold things.

I have a gas stove, so all burners are the same. In my current home, I use the right front burner the most. In my previous home, I used the left front burner the most. For me, it is dependent upon where my prep space is. In this home, it is closest to the right burner. In my previous home, it was closest to the left front burner.

BTW...right handed.

All this research can be saved for something useful if people just use a more advanced stove top like this one.
