Classic & Vintage - Dura Ace 7400 pedals chrome

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hello, I picked up a bike with these DA 7400 pedals and they are chrome instead of the black that I am used to seeing. What is the significance of the chrome versions, as I can't find any information about them. Were they prior to the black versions? Thanks!

Never seen black of those hehehe
IS the same pedal, anodized body and the chrome parts probably are stainless steel ultra polished.

I've seen both. Can't elaborate further.
FYI,
I suspect what you are calling out as "chromed" are mostly clear anodized (silver) areas of the pedal. If there is stainless steel on parts of the pedals, it is most likely just polished and not chromed.
If anything, black versions of the DA7400 pedals will be the rarer ones. As already noted most seen out there are silver/clear anodized.

I disagree. I've only seen the black version but I seem to recall another thread within the last 6 months discussing this same topic. The non-black version is less common I think.
IIRC, These came first, and are chromed steel plates. My brother has a NOS pair of these. I have a pair of the black anodized aluminum plates. A tad lighter and later.
Cheers for the all the responses. I don't have a need for the pedals, so I am gathering info prior to letting them go. My presonal experience is that the chromed steel version (thanks WNG) are less common. I seem to recall someone with a pair of these posting them for sale recently, but I could not find it. Will try to search again. Regards.

Kurt (cudak888) had a pair for sale a month or so ago, I think.

Hey Julian - that is what I recall as well. Looks like the post is deleted, though. I will contact Kurt.
The 1985 catalog (first year for 7400 Dura-Ace) shows the black plates, while the 1986 catalog shows the silver plates.

They were PD-7400's; far as I know, there was no part number distinction between the finishes.
I gave them away to a friend, so I don't have any other photos than these, which were from that deleted sales thread:
