Wow, that Superbe is great! The last bike you posted with the split seat tube is a Rigi.

Was about to say, I think it's a Rigi. Bianchigirl has a beautiful example of one. Great pics, thanks.

Hmm... now that I've looked up photos of other Rigis, the seat tube treatment looks different on this one.

The one with the double seat tube could be a "Mecacycle Turbo" Made in France, I think (but the decal on the seta tube seems to be in Italian though so the company could be Italian. Usually made with Supervitus 980 tubing, that's why I assumed it's French. I think the frames were designed with the double seat tube so they can have the shortest wheelbase for the bike. I wouldn't mind getting one of those in my stable!
By the way, .................is there a basement next door too? How thick are those basement walls anyway??:rolleyes::D

The seat tube definitely looks closer to Mecacycle's, though those didn't appear to have a head tube decal. From the colors on the decals, I was thinking it might be German.

Aren't those colors of the decal denoting world champoinship cycling colors (arc-en-ceil)?? Maybe the "S" on it is a better clue to it's identity. theres also a word like "DELVIC" at the bottom of the decal. I'm sure someone would eventually chime in with a final answer.

My '77 Volare has very similar dropouts, but with eyelets. I'm sure there were, but I'm not aware of an earlier bike with vertical dropouts.

Yes, now I remember!, The S on the decals on that bike with the double seat tube denotes "Stelvio" (not "Delvic" as I first thought on the seat tube decal). Not sure if it was an actual brand name, but I do remember seeing that decal set amongst other "fantasy brand" (That's how the LBS described them to my brother and me back then) bike decal sets my LBS used to sell in the 80's for people who want to redo their bikes to look like fancy Italian brands. I remember my brother taking the badly peeling decals off one of his bikes and turning it into a "Mont Blanc" with the decal sets..... IIRC, he might have even used a Stelvio set on it too.
Mecacycle Turbos were sometimes sold as unfinished frames (one was being sold unfinished in ebay about a year or two ago), this could be one of them and the owner who built it up must have used the Stelvio decal set to finish it up.
Only way to confirm if it's a Mecacycle is to look at the BB shell. It should have "Mecacycle Turbo" cast on or cut into it at the botom.
Too bad, it looks too big for me ( I need a 52 - 54 CM), as I would seriously consider making an offer to buy it if it was for sale!:( I have all the French compnents to build up the bike "correctly".:rolleyes:

I had a Nishiki Superbe just like that one; same color, dropouts, components, etc. It had a rather slack head angle in the 54cm size I ride, the front end felt floppy and I just didn't care for it. I really wanted to like it too, because it was a very nice bike otherwise. That larger frame probably has better front end geometry.

That is the store owner's own frame. Apparently back in the 70s there was a local framebuilding movement. Mclean frames http://www.classicrendezvous.com/USA/McLean/mclean_main.htm were a part (and part cause?) of this movement. He said he built that particular frame from a combo of tube types. He has several more hanging about also. I will get some pics next time...

73' Raleigh Record Ace had vertical Campagnolo dropouts.
