Another accident here in Tampa over the weekend. 2 dead and a girl severely injured. Drinking and 3:00 AM in the morning do not mix. No life vests at all. Jet skis in Florida can ONLY operate between 1/2hr before sunrise and 1/2 hr after sunset.
Middle of a huge lake and two jet skis plow into each other. The girl wrote in FB account from hospital bed stating that they did not take the 2 seconds to put on life vests. Her two friends drowned and she is lucky to be alive.
I am relating this to the OP to what jsharr is talking about.

That is a Pan Am Clipper, and that is a Boeing 314 Clipper, in particular, circa 1938-1941..

You may be able to buffalo some people that that's a jet-ski but us folks up here in the Great White North know a snowmobile when we see one. :)

Ekranoplan>Flying boat. :P
That jet-pack/ski looks like a death wish to me though.

How the hell do you reach the off switch on that thing?
Just watch, my city hall will buy one to put out apartment fires.

There is one of those on open display at the Oshkosh airport. They usually have the Budweiser Miss America off shore racing boat on display next to it. The Sea Dart kicks Miss America's ass.

Gadzooks, you're right. I blame insufficient caffeination at the time of my post.
Dolphinator or what ever it is - eh, could pass on that thing.
Instead, I'll take one each of these:

Actually, two survive, albeit not on dry land, and one may one day be resurrected.

And if you ever wander over to Ireland, you can set foot on a full scale 314 replica

I'm not sure "at the bottom of the ocean after 60 years and not recovered" counts as "surviving". :)

You have to operate one of those in the dark to be legal in Florida? That seems like it should be the other way around.

Me neither now that I read it again, somebody must have changed it!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convair_F2Y_Sea_DartHoly scheiße. Before I read more carefully, I was thinking it was a ground effect vehicle like gnome was posting about, and thought, "Mach 1 flying just above the water? So much no."
I'm not sure "at the bottom of the ocean after 60 years and not recovered" counts as "surviving". :)Considering they just pulled up and at least partially restored a submarine from the Civil War, I'd say it just depends on how much someone cares.
