Classic & Vintage - DT shifters on bar-end pods?

So, I have a bit of a problem. I have a set of 8 speed barend shifters that I've had for years. The pods are in good shape, but the levers themselves are pretty beat up, plastic is broken, covers are missing, etc. I was wondering if any other shimano DT levers would work with the pods I have. I have a set of shimano 600 DT that almost work, the FD shifter fits pretty well, but the RD shifter does not, maybe because its a 6 speed DT going on a 8 speed pod. Would 8 speed DT levers work? Has anybody tried doing this?

Yeah, the downtube levers can be substituted for the bar-end versions on Shimano indexed bar-ends. Been there, done that, it works fine.

In general, it works fine. You just have to make sure the holes in the DT levers line up with the pods.

I figured my problem out and am now thoroughly embarrassed about how stupid it was. The fit together, but now there is a new problem. The right shifter does not move independently from the screw holding it in. Any ideas on why? The shifter is pretty dirty so I'm giving it a good cleaning and lube, but I wouldn't think thats the problem.

If that's the 6sp one, they're notorious for their little teeth ripping off the core's mating surface. It should look like this:

Under close observation, it seems as though those little teeth are almost flat. I guess those are goaners, right?

Dang, those looked pretty cool on there. Well, time to find a new set.

My solution. Not indexing, obviously, but I never had it in indexing anyway. I have a Deore group on the bike, so its fitting. Looks cool too. I might give it a little curve at some point.
