I was wondering if anyone else with a saris bones rack has had this problem. After using it to transport my bikes for a few months, ive noticed that there is a gap developing between the trunk itself and the rest of the car body. So far the gap is at about .7mm. Its not a huge problem now but I dont want it to get worse and have the gap allow water into the trunk due to a break in the trunks seal. I dont know if it is from carrying downhill bikes and this has happened only to my, or has this happened to other people as well.

I can't imagine the rack with bikes on it would be enough weight to pull the trunk lid away from the rest of the car. When your rack is on the car, is it installed so the weight of the bikes rests mostly on the feet of the rack? If the feet are not placed so they can carry the weight, the straps on the trunk carry it all.

Ill try tightening the rack some more so that all the weight goes to the bumper. When I get home im going to take a pic and post it so you guys can tell me if its set up like it should be. Im pretty sure it is set right, ive been using the rack for 2 years now without any problems until i got my new car.
sorry I have a hatchback an no issues.
perhaps you could take it to a body shop and they could give you details on what's happening.
I've had my Bones for a few years, no problems. There is a dulling of the car's finish under the rubber feet of the rack, but I don't care enuff to figure out how to buff it off.
Cheap car?
Geez, Raiyn, you beat me to it.
I'd like to know how he got to measure it so accurately. 0.7mm? Feeler gauges?
