Worth at least a $100 with just a releast on CL maybe more as is with decent ad and photos.

Hopefully, you will come to understand that a bicycle, sporting its original paint and art, is usually far more sought after, and valuable, than one that has been painted.

That said, welcome to the Bike Forums and congrats on finding a very nice bicycle. It is worth fifteen times what you paid for it and will continue to appreciate in value with the passing of time - unless you choose to paint it. That will negatively impact the bicycle's monetary and collectable value.

+1 Repaint is your choice. It will cost you serious money and time, it will be less durable (probably much less durable) than the original paint, and it will lower the value of the bike. By far the cheapest route to a color change is just sell it and buy a bike the color you prefer.

+2 Do not paint it unless you're ready to take a huge hit in value. I'll only pay half what I'd pay for a bike with original paint unless the job was professionally done with all the proper badges and graphics (hundreds of dollars to do.)

Whoa, that web page really makes you not want to paint an old bike. Really what it comes down to is painting the bike would seriously decrease it's value.

What if I really don't care about it's value and just want to have fun with it making it into my own creation sort of? I don't know, reading that is really persuasive but I just don't see myself holding on to it for another decade.

Do what you want, but in my opinion these types of fun projects are best left to bikes that are worthless to begin with like my 3-speed frankenbike Huffy. I sold the thing for $50, probably the only time a spray job has ever increased the value of a bike.

Hey one of the nicest looking ghetto 3 speeds I have seen. Looks like you invested at least $100 in parts and labor into this $50 beater. Don't feel bad I have invested several hundred in bikes if you consider labor and used parts value that I sold for cheap.

Nah, more like $6 for paint. Got the bikes from a guy when I helped him fix his bike, he didn't want a couple Huffys in his garage so I took them as payment. Labor was free, I didn't charge myself :)

Note the fork is from a MTB, hence the two different wheel sizes (590mm rear, 559mm front) and different brakes (canti front, caliper rear.) Also has a classy hose clamped bottle cage, and triple crankset with the outer ring ground off. Of course the gold is the best part!

That ghettoized 3 speed puts me to shame! I did a metallic silver "to" a ladies 18-speed that looked a lot worse than that. Got $35 for it!! Yeeeehaw!

Talk about painting something to sell...we had an old 70's Subaru that we had tried to sell for ~$300...wouldn't sell. Had a case of beer, some left over red porch enamel, and airless sprayer and a free Saturday....Sold it on the next Tuesday for $550 :D
