I'm gona be using my bike for hunting and I know you can't totally prevent a flat but what is a good heavy duty tube to help prevent thorns and such from puncturing the tube. I have heard not to use the slime ones and also looked at the slime liners but have heard they have had problems with them cutting into the tube itself.

Unless you want a ton of extra rotating weight go extra tubes and pump or tubeless with slime. In order to keep stuff from puncturing a tube you need a lot of protection meaning a lot of weight. A heavy duty tube alone won't make a huge difference in puncture protection.
I think the thicker tubes help more with pinch flats than thorn punctures.

I'm a fan of Mr. Tuffies. Also bring a spare tube and patch kit even spare tire for some trips.
I flatten out PBR cans, cut them into strips and duct tape them to the insides of my tires.
