Road Cycling - Cleats feel good one day, not the next?

This might sound weird, but my cleats seem to fit into my spd pedals different sometimes. Like the other day, my right shoe felt like it was toeing in to the left, so I was stressing the cleat out the opposite way, one time unclipping from the pedal. I looked at the cleats, and they appear to not be moving. Some days, they feel fine. Can it be that sometimes clipping in can produce a bad clip in? Does this sound crazy!

OK, 1) Are you sure your shoes are on the correct feet? (Sorry, couldn't resist that.)

2) Are your pedals 2-sided? Could the two sides clip a little differently?

3) Are you using mtb shoes? The raised areas on an mtb shoe that allow you to walk comfortably with SPD cleats are supposed to contact the pedal surface. It could be that a slightly different position at clip in could cause a different feeling. I haven't really noticed this with my Egg Beater pedals wearing mtb shoes. The Egg Beater click in area and cleats are similar to SPD.

Not much help but some thoughts anyway.
