I would appreciate some information as I am a newbie to spinning. I want to purchase some Sidi cycle shoes for my spinning class. The spinning bicycle pedal is SPD. What do I need to purchase to allow my shoe to attache to the pedal? Thanks in advance for the information[/FONT]

Did you answer my question? I don't want Shimano shoes, I want Sidi shoes and need to know what I need to purchase to adapt the Sidi shoe to the SPD pedal.

Whoa buddy! calm down. The guy was recommending SPINNING shoes with pedals. We understand that you want Sidi's but the spinning shoes he recommended are for SPIN classes. Sidi should have all the information you need on their website. I think an adapter comes with the sidi's go mount SPD cleats on. You will also need to buy a set of cleats, since they do not come with the shoes. Next time, relax and take opinions as they come, they can be quite helpful.

You'll need to buy SPD cleats, for starters, to fit the pedals you say are on the class bikes; SPD is the Shimano mountain bike style cleat (as opposed to SPD-R [for road]). Then, you may need an adapter, depending on the model of shoe you buy. Which SIDI shoe are you looking at? A moment's research on the SIDI web site (http://www.sidiusa.com/tech/faq.html#9)revealed this about mixing SPD pedals with SIDI road shoes, for example:

WHAT ADAPTOR PLATES CAN I USE WITH SIDI ROAD SHOES?
SPD: Use the 07SPDPLT adaptor.

From a mail-order catalogue:
2997 ... SIDI SPD/SPD-R Adaptor Plates ... $19.95
These are the insert plates for SIDI shoes to work with Shimano SPD fits SH51,52,55 cleats. Made in Italy. Guaranteed for 1 Year
PART_NUM OTHER PRICE
2997-00 2-bolt SPD adaptor (not shown) $19.95
2997-99 SPD-R $19.95

Why not ask the LBS where you buy the cleat and shoes? They will likely even mount them for you.

I have SIDI Genius road shoes. An SPD adaptor plate comes with the shoes. You need a set of SPD cleats. They work fine on the spin bikes at my gym, which are Reebok brand, IIRC.

Spin away.

I was not being a prick even if you interpreted it that way. That person did not answer my question. In any case thanks to all of you who provided me with the information I had asked for.

i am in a similar situation.. i have really nice shimano shoes, with carbon soles, so it only has the three holes for SPD-R cleats. apparently they can only have these three holes, because as you increse the amount of holes, it weakens the carbon sole. does anyone know what i can do. do they sell adapter plates for this? if so, where can i get one?

What is teh difference between a SPINNING shoe and a regular shoe? and it must be a nice gym if for there stationary bikes have spd pedals on them. (i think you at a gym, may be wrong)

The club I joined has spinning classes with "Lemond" branded spinning exercise bicycles. The exercise bikes on the aerobics floor are "Lifefitness" road and recumbent styles without the range of adjustment on the spinning bikes - quick adjust seat & handlebar vert & lateral adjustments.
They are one side SPD and one side straps and work well with my Shimano shoes (Nashbar MTB pedals/SPD clips). Nashbar sell replacement clips for $10 and the pedals with clips for $30 ($25 on sale).
