Hi everyone.

I have a mtb with late 90s XTR m950-series components. The shifters are integrated with the brake levers and are underbar "rapidfire plus" with one trigger for the thumb and one for the pointer finger---common Shimano style.

The morning after a recent ride where everything went fine, I found that the right side shifter has no clicks from either trigger---it just moves without engaging the cable, or getting to an indent (click).

Any ideas? Pop it open and clean? They don't seem gummed up otherwise, and as I said, it happened suddenly. I'm going to check the cable head now.....but I was wondering if anyone had experience/ideas about these. I've always been more of an above-bar thumb shifter kind of guy :)

If it went out suddenly, one possibility is that one of the pawls has a slipped or broken hairspring. If you don't get any results from flushing & lubing, a quick visual inspection of the pawls and their tiny hairsprings may help verify whether the springs are OK.

I popped open the cover (held by three bolts) and with the cover off it seemed to click normally. I just lubed things and will reattached the reach mech and give it a shot.

The thumb paddle works but the pointer finger trigger doesn't. I'll give it another shot, and then in frustration switch out for some old m732's in friction ;)
