Tandem Cycling - Panaracer Pasela (non TG) 700x32?

Hi - new to the forum but not completely new to tandems although as of yet my wife and I don't have a ton of miles in and it has been a few years since we've owned one. After a 5 year hiatus from tandems, we just picked up a NOS Burley Rumba for what I consider to be a good deal. It was hanging long enough that the 700x28 Contis that are on it are looking a little dry on the sidewalls meaning that it's time for new rubber. I was thinking that moving up to a 32mm tire would be a good idea since we're going to mostly be riding on bike paths and doing rides less than about 20 miles at a time with my daughter in a child seat on the back - a little extra comfort would probably be welcome. As a family we're probably right around 300lbs. Any thoughts on the 32mm Panaracer (non-TG) Paselas? Too fragile? I've read that they had (have?) QC issues? I'm looking for an inexpensive but decent tire. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

I have a brand new one of those in a 700x35 if you are interested in that size. I bought it for my wife's bike and then found the chainstays are too narrow for it. PM me if you are interested in it.

We have used 32mm non Tourguard quite a while. We are happy with them. Rubber is soft so they wear fairly quickly but still a good tire. I feel the non-tourguard tires give a little better ride than the tourgaurd versions.

Oh. I rode these on our tandem 3 years ago and LOVED the ride at first, but after about 300 miles threw them out, Could not keep air in them. Nice ride but just not durable enough. We now ride Vittoria Hypers and love them but they are a little more expensive than Panaracers. Try Conti Gatorskins for a good all around tire at a reasonable price. If you have some extra cash get the Hypers...

Thanks for the responses. Its just dawned on me that with a little shuffling of tires between bikes that I could have some decent Conti 32's on the tandem without spending any cash. This is probably the best course of action because it's unlikely that we'll be getting any more than a few hundred miles on the Rumba this year but that depends on our daughter. She loves riding on the back of my townie/"dad bike" right now but toddlers can fickle, or so I've heard :)

We run 700x25s and weigh just under 250 lbs as a team.
Great flat protection; mileage runs around the 2,000 mark for the rear tire.
Am currently testing a Pasela TG 700x25 but had tro reduce recommended air pressure by 5 lbs (down to 110 PSI) due to complaints by stoker of the harsher ride than the Re-Fuse which we run at 120 PSI.

Interesting - I've seen several positive recommendations of the Re-Fuse for tandem use. Terrible name for a tire though. probably only second to "Detonator", Maxxis' other training tire.

Funny names?!
Re-Fuse as in 'refuse to puncture' . . . had 1 flat in 5,600 miles of riding on Re-Fuse tires in 2011.
Detonnator . . . yes rode those before switching and did 'detonnate' a couple tires as is "KABOOM!".
