I got a small problem finding 650 rims with 36 holes. So, I found a pair now but they seem to be 'noname', how bad can they be? It is a pretty serious LBS so I dont think they would sell crappy stuff, but you never know.

Usually LBSs sell components of different quality and price level to satisfy the needs of different customers. So, they could be absolute crap. Even though they are in a nice shop.

Try http://www.rivendellbicycles.com. They're selling a couple varieties of 650B rims since they're selling bikes designed for that size.

There are still a few companies out there selling good 36-hole 650 rims. Sun Rims is my personal favorite. Most of Mavic's quality and competitveness for a price thats less than my meager week's pay.

If they are double walled and eyeletted, they are probably fine, if not sexy.

Veltec has Mavic 650c rims that are 36 spoke in their catolouge. A good LBS should be able to get them.

The Rivendell rims are 650B not 650C. The B size is archaic and obscolete* and is too wide for most racing style C frames.
Why do you want 36 spokes? That is equivelent to a 700c rim with 40 spokes which is for serious loaded touring.

*Old French style touring bikes.

Yeah, I looked at the Rivendell rims and found them to wide for me. The problem is that I already bought hubs when I thought I could use 700c rims, when I examined the frame however it turned out that I have to use 650c rims but I dont want to buy new hubs. And, I think the extra weight and drag caused by 36 spokes is negligable since I will be riding this bike both as a pure racer and also loaded over the alps next summer.

Anyway, is it so scarce with 650c rims with 36 holes?

Check out www.frankfordbike.com for a set of Sun Rhynolites. They are relatively narrow, there are also a few other sun rims they carry that are narrower/lighter. If its not listed, call them. Very freindly people.

I think so too. Also, your LBS has the opposite problem you are having. He has an unusual set of rims gathering dust and no buyer. Bargain shamlessly for those hoops! Ask him if he's sorry that he bought them. Get him to admit they were an inventory mistake. Then tell him that you'll take them off his hands for what he paid for them.
