I got my first Campy Super Record rear derailleur in the early 1980s. :)

I'm STILL using my first Campy Super Record derailleur on my Ciocc. :D

Campy doesn't break-down . . . it just breaks in! :thumb:

EDIT: That beautiful old Campy ad is truly a perfect example of "truth in advertising". The literal truth.

I like this advert, but every time I saw it way back, I want to move the ridge line on the two pivot fasteners and add the stamped text.
I am sure the illustrator was proud enough of the Campagnolo Super Record text, a pain to render by hand.

My favorite Campagnolo ad and poster was the one with Eddy soon after a victory, (I think it was a World's) with a bouquet and being hugged by Tullio Campagnolo.

So, anyone able to convert this to a poster? I have one file scanning but it's over 100mb 800dpi. I have another that that is much smaller. What is needed for a poster? Anyone?

The average laser printer prints at 300 or 600dpi and you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference. Even the low res copy you have on Flickr would look acceptable, though not nearly as good. I'd say 300dpi is a good resolution to scan it at. Maybe 600 and a little bit of compression to keep the file size reasonable.

This might go nicely in a set with it. I'll do a better scan of it if anyone wants it.

I changed the scan to fit standard poster size (24x36). I did a few hurried edits (Gaussian blur, unsharp mask, cloned background,) I think the end result is acceptable looking when it printed.

I have a 15mb limit on my flickr account so I had to save lower the resolution a bit to get under the limit. Don't expect perfection from it, but I think it will be decent.

That beautiful old Campy ad is truly a perfect example of "truth in advertising". The literal truth.

Quite a lovely advert, no doubt about it. I love the classic Campy stuff as much as anybody.

However, the bit about the "adjustable lower pivot spring" does smack of hyperbole. Nowhere in the ad does it tell you that it's a simple two-position adjustment.

I liked that line too. What I really liked about that ad, aside from the fact is that it's just plain cool, is the apparent confirmation of something I've really been scratching my head over. It states the pins holding the thing together are aluminum. That may seem obvious on first glance, but if you're trying to make some .... now all I've got to do is see if regular aluminum alloy works.

That Campy ad is absolutely of another time. Love the directness and lack of "concept." They just made something amazing and said "here it is and here's why it's great." Long-copy ads don't really exist these days, for the most part. It's kind of a shame, because they can still be effective for certain audiences.

The one thing I can't abide is the abuse of Lubalin Graph in that headline. Ouch.

The Raleigh ad is really nice, too. Nice contrast from different ages.

It fits the era. What I dislike about it is that the type has been stretched vertically.

Better than another 1970's ad with Helvetica, anyway.

You talent youngsters on the bits and bytes.

I had to update my Quicktime to open the large file.
Of course, I got it open in Paint, but I could only see about 1/100 of the image at a time.
:roflmao2:

I sent the 12.2mb image to my color laser, which has a 512mb memory.
The little screen on the printer says something that may indicate it's thinking about it....
It's been almost 3 minutes, but no error messages. I'll give it overnight.

I just sold an Euclid mtb RD, honestly didn't know what it was, thought it was just an old NOS long-cage RD.
It should be at Mr. Thompson's house about tomorrow, or maybe Monday.
Until then, I didn't know there was such a thing as a Campy mtb RD...

My mom used to think I hand-wrote letters to her, until my stupid brother told her about the handwriting font I'd had made.

Speaking of which, handwritten script fonts are overused. You'd think that a creative director would have smartened up by now: Have someone physically write the headline/tagline by hand, then import it into Illustrator. Live Trace can take care of the rest.

It was one where they send you a long sheet, and you hand write a script they send you, and you send it back.
Looked like it covered the gamut of the most-often used items and transitions.

I sent it off and got a floppy back with the font on it. Basically, a font in my handwriting. It got boring after a while.
