i recently signed up for spin classes. the bikes have shimano-spd pedals attached. i have really nice shimano shoes, with carbon soles, so it only has the three holes for SPD-R cleats. apparently they can only have these three holes, because as you increse the amount of holes, it weakens the carbon sole. does anyone know what i can do so i can still use these shoes but with different cleats? do they sell adapter plates for this? if so, where can i get one?
Wait what exactley is your ?

I don't know of an adaptor to go from LOOK to SPD cleats. If one side of the spin bike's pedals have toe staps, see if they are an adapter for LOOK cleats. If so, remove the pedal adapter and use LOOK cleats. Check with the facility, you may be able to switch pedals for class, but that could be troublesome.

i do not have LOOK cleats, or SPD cleats at the moment. I wanted to know how i could go from SPD-R to SPD.. after a trip to the LBS, i found out that there is an adapter to do this. I opted to get a different pair of shoes however, that can use SPD cleats. I did this because i plan to do spin classes, and home trainning on my indoor trainer. It would not be worth while to switch back and forth between the SPD-R cleats needed for my bike, and the SPD cleats needed for the spin class.
The bikes in my spinning class are double sided. SPS on one side and Look on the other. Have you looked at the other side?

The three holes are in a triangle? That's LOOK cleat drilling. SPD-SL uses the same bolt pattern. We're pretty much left with two cleat bolt patterns: the three bolt "delta" pattern for road bikes popularized by LOOK and the two bolt SPD pattern for MTBs created by Shimano.
