Classic & Vintage - Westminster bike swap meet revisited on Feb 12th.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Roll call anyone ? Hopefully, it won't be during a blizzard.
Did I just say that ? :twitchy:

I will be there. Probably my girlfriend and possibly my brother and his son.
I have two older MTB projects I need parts for. Any cool old MTB parts anyone?

I'll be there along with RobTown and ultraman6970.
Yes, I already have 4 boxes of parts, 4 wheels, a frame and 1 - 3 bikes to take. Hopefully I'll make more than I spend. At least it's a bit easier walking around my work area.

3 NOS Sun rims, 406 BMX size
2 NOS Araya 700c rims

2 Dahon folders, need work, to be sold as pair cheap

And whatever else I pull from the basement.

Like Poguemahone says, we'll be there. If you're looking at the floor plan to the place in the lobby, we're listed at O'Brien/Paczolt - and if we get the same spot as last year, we're going to be in the back of the hall close to the concession stand. I'm bringing four bikes (three road $125.00 Craigslist flips, 19-21" frames plus my Diamondback mtb), and a few parts. Definitely nothing particularly vintage collectible.
Weather update: Weather.com is talking an inch of snow predicted tonight for the Westminster area. Low of 18f, high tomorrow of 31.

Maggie and I will only have (1) space this year (10X20). They decided to jack - up the space
rental to $150.00 + tax + $5.00 p/p to get in, even though we are vendors ...
Jeesh, this hobby is getting expensive.

Carlisle? Did someone say "Carlisle"? Weather permitting, I'll be happy to make the drive. I have nothing to offer except dollars.

Swap wasn't too bad, although I had suspected this year would be better for buying than selling, and I was completely right. I did okay-- I basically broke even-- and I got rid of a bunch of crap from my basement. High end in parts sales was awful, and I basically gave away the bikes I came with. In the future, anything I can sell for under 150 goes on the local CL in late august. I'll probably just rent a small table at the swap from now on, bring a pile of stuff to sell, but mostly buy. Buying was good. Before the show opened, I picked up this for 375$:
http://i872.photobucket.com/albums/ab285/1967PeugeotPX10/lightspeed/peugeotpe41002.jpg
I've got most of the group to go on it already, but I want to refurbish the Campy shifters first; plus I need to find a crank. This one will likely be one I won't mess around with, may even funnel some cash into the group or go modern.
I've always wanted one of these, despite their reputation for coming apart under larger riders. Back when I was commuting to work at the record store on my Peugeot, I would see these in the Nashbar catalog and lust after them in my heart. I always thought they looked cool. But as I moved into the vintage hobby, I steered clear, based on reputation. Whenever one of the local flippers found one, he'd be convinced he'd found something extremely valuable, and want way too much for it. But I swore if I ever found one for cheap, I'd buy it. After a very cursory bargaining process (I knew the seller and we'd dealt before, very cool guy) I walked away with this for 35$:
http://i872.photobucket.com/albums/ab285/1967PeugeotPX10/vitus/peugeotpe41003.jpg
When I left to bargain for it, I told Syke to shoot me if I came back with it. For some reason, he did not. This one moved up to the front of the que today, getting brake levers and calipers (Modolo Mach 1), derailleurs (Suntour Cyclone MK II), bar and stem, wheels. Bottom bracket and crank should be on shortly, and seatpost is already on order. This build I go cheap, from the parts pile. If it's not too whippy, as they are reputed to be, I might source out a donor bike in time.
I really wasn't planning on more project bikes, but at least I didn't purchase any vintage steel. Oh, and my ape like reach afforded me a deal, because no one else can use these here Cinelli stems, 5$ for the pair:
http://i872.photobucket.com/albums/ab285/1967PeugeotPX10/vitus/peugeotpe41004.jpg
In all, I'm okay with everything, though I'm changing some of the stuff I do at swaps from now on.
So, what did you buy or sell?
I got a couple of things I specifically wanted: a couple of king hubs, and a couple of my favorite bars. And a few things that I just could not pass up including a cool old Ringle MTB post, a nice Selle Italia saddle, and an eccentric ENO hub.
I road tripped with USAZORRO, but I was too eager to find loot that I did not seek out any other C&Vers. I kind of suspect one of you was selling an oddball Klein with flatbars and white saddle. Nice bike, but did not think I could find a worthy use for it.

I took along a Sun beach cruiser, a Trek 520 and a dept store 10 speed. I ended up moving the Trek and the cruiser. At the table, I unloaded a lot of parts that I knew I would never use, though I realized upon returning home, I left one box in the car that had 3 racks in it! Actually, the Trek sold before it even got moved and locked into the corral, so I could have saved the $5 had I known!

I was there, i didn't look on here til just now but met a few C and V guys from the bikeforums. It was good to meet you guys in person, and see that i am not the only insane person on this list. Jgedwa, what model saddle?
I sold. It was my first year there, and my wife came with me. And just getting my business off to a start. I withheld...and sold. I didn't even browse. It was killing me but in the end. I snagged up a Campagnolo Umbrella Clamp that will go on my Bianchi. And my wife got me a Team Zombie jersey set. Hell yea!!

Hey Walt, I stopped by late in the day and bought three patches and diverted you from packing duties for a while as your wife patiently listened to the two bike nerds talk. ;) The detail and workmanship on the patches is second to none! I'll be looking forward to whatever other patches you make in the future and will continue to rue the fact that I never had an opportunity to get a Hercules patch when they were available. :(

Oh, and I forgot one more thing thing. I was incredibly restrained with my buying, but had an opportunity to get another Sturmey AW Alloy body hub. I'm working hard to corner the market on them! :D

Not sure, but had exposed rivets around the rear. Bike was reddish or purplish maybe. Did you sell it?

Darn I hate you guys hahaha... well happy for the guys got some stuff at the right price, specially those cinelli stems, the cinelli XA u got is a 120 mm by any chance?? Looking for one for a while, even sold the handlebar in the even, darn! :D
I did not see too much to buy this year, last year was a guy selling campy groups and taking paypal and stuff, he sold stuff like crazy. The guy selling wheels in front of the socks clothing store, he did not sell a single wheel, saw him last year and he was asking too much for the sets, looks like this year was the same because i noticed the same stuff he had previous years for sale.
I told this before, we have to meet one day somewhere around DC metro to have our own swap met. As usual nobody wants to do it. Bet somebody might like roberts banana seat bike or maybe his chromed paramount, bet dallas has a ton of stuff still moving around.
Walt was already packing when I got to his booth so I couldnt see anything, do you have a list of the patches available by any chance.

Ok, I confess, I was the klein perp *lol* I built it for my Wife and then she decided she wanted a " comfort bike " ( is that an oxymoron ? )
So I though i would bring it to see if I had any interest. No luck on the Klein, but I still sold 10 bikes.
It seemed strange this year ... lots of lookers, but money was tight. If you didn't give it away, you didn't sell it.

It was certainly a buyer's show. I was pretty happy with my purchases, less happy with sales. Of course, going to these things, we all want to sell all our stuff for asking price and buy for as close to nothing as possible, so you can take my complaint with a grain of salt.

That was a real pretty Klein! I admired it a number of times. :)
Bike swaps have been this way for a few years now. To sell anything it has to be super nice, super rare, or dirt cheap.
This show seems to be a higher end show. Not many cheap bikes or beaters there. I didn't buy much but had a lot of fun there. One vendor had a display of new women's cycling shorts for 70% off. Took care of my Valentines' day gift for the missus.

Selling was definitely the pits for me, although that was not unexpected: My stock was primarily four Craigslist flippers, just in case some college type kids came thru looking for cheap transportation. They'll hit Craigslist once the weather starts to warm and spring starts to be in evidence. Did pick up a Paramount (PDG, still have to figure out what year, probably low end) frame in my size for a future build, a few small bits for some projects I'm currently running. Big parts find was a replacement set of NOS Shimano Deore LX shifters for that Nishiki mtb I just finished (the mud daubers trashed the original set).
Probably the biggest news of all, was I didn't spend much more than $100.00 of the stash I took. Which meant that: a. The GT Tachyon went to the powder coater today. It'll be done in the original metallic purple with a silver undercoat. I'm starting to refurbish the rest of the parts, and hope to have it back on the road by 1 April. Would love to find reproduction decals, but can live without. Found out last week that I can keep up with Poguemahone on his Serotta without killing myself - so it's going to be at least a short term keeper, probably longer.
b. Patti was taken out to dinner for Valentine's Day.

Damn, USAZorro was there? I've been wanting to meet the guy since he turned me on to this group back in '05. Still got to talk to him about a set of Fuji Finest sewup rims.

It was an interesting bike, and well worth it to the right buyer I think. And I promised the gods that I would not come home with a new bike, so that buyer is not me.

Photogravity, thanks for the compliments on my patches. My wife definitely knows i am a bike nerd, and she tolerates it well. Regarding future swaps this year...it's looking rough. I am thinking of bringing a smaller selection of items to Trexlertown in the spring. I wasn't pleased with sales. My wife thought we did well, but considering she insisted on coming down the night before and get a room didn't help. It cut into anything i was making. Tough crowd for sure. I had my one last remaining EighthInch bicycle with me, it got tons and tons of looks, the price was kicker at $400 with extras included. Just wasn't in the cards. I didn't sell the saddle...sorry. Next time i go to these events. I am putting a note on my table saying that i am a member on BikeForums, CR, BoB list, etc.
