So who is going to watch the Stupid Bowl tomorrow rather than going for a bike ride? You might get an idea of what I plan from my question.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to either, unless I ride in the morning. Have theater tickets for "Les Miserables". But if I didn't, I would take the bike ride over the Super Bowl as I can always tape the game if I were really interested.

Why not.........both?

For me, if I didn't have the theater tickets, the weather here is just to gorgeous to ride a trainer while watching the Super Bowl.

Watch a bunch of overpaid prima donnas dancing around, ride my bike (supposed to be 40 and raining), watch a movie? The movie wins.

Take advantage of everyone being in front of TV and go for a "peaceful' ride with very few cars--unfortunately I have a bad cold and don't want to turn it into pneumonia!

Around hear most everyone will be watching The Game. The roads should be quiet. But I'll probably be watching The Game too. I may get a ride in earlier though.

:thumb: I will be taking my first zumba class with MY daughter & MY sister! If I pass out on the dance studio floor, it will still be more fun than watching the Stupor Bowl.

Since the New England Patriots are playing, most certainly around here everyone will be watching The Game. You wanna see quiet roads? My neighborhood, Kenmore Square, the virtual Crossroads of College Life in Boston, will be closed to traffic and under Police lockdown, with a Civil Disorders Unit on stand-by.

Both. Game's not until 8 EST.

It bothers me that I can tell you the TdF winners over the last 15 years but would be hardpressed to tell you who won the Super Bowl last year. It's unamerican.

BTW, the last several SB games have been well-played and entertaining. Not sure why so many of you feel the need to announce your displeasure with it. It's not a government-mandated activity, ya know ;)

My "Superbowl" came at lunch time. Home made Chicken and veg soup. Absolutely ideal on a 20f morning of freezing in the garden. Then dinner was home made chicken casserole followed by a serving of home made Gooseberry Pie.

I am enjoying the cold weather. So much in fact that a 2nd slice of pie might be supper. You need to keep the calory intake up in this cool weather.

I love football, and I love to watch the superbowl! Haven't missed one yet, and don't think I ever will. My wife loves it too! Oh back to the question... Ride in the morning; weather permitting; we are having flash-flood warnings in the area, then after the ride settle in, make some chicken and sausage gumbo and enjoy the game.

I'm telling you! But if you see the price of these tickets, you'll know why I have to go to the theater.

Not all of us are big sports fans. I enjoy a football game every now and then but I don't go out of my way to watch them. If my son is watching a game, I'll sit and watch it, but if it's between a football game and a good movie, the movie wins every time.

I plan to start my day with a bike ride. Then drive down to Bean-town for a Celtics game and come home to catch the first half of the Super Bowl. If I have the steam, I might watch more.

The game is actually scheduled to start at 6:30PM EST and about a dozen websites will be doing livestreaming as well as the TV coverage.

It will be a busy day.

Go to church Sunday morning and sing in choir.
Ride bike Sunday afternoon.
Go to church Sunday evening.
Go to friend's house and watch game.

Only thing is, I'm not sure who to root for, the Cubs or the Celtics?

Living on the west coast, it's easy. Ride in the morning and watch the Superbowl in the afternoon. The Superbowl, being a quasi-national holiday, is kind of a 'requirement' to watch. I mean after all, what are you going to talk with your co-workers about on Monday if you don't watch it?

Now here's the deal. Superbowl Sunday involves hours of pre-game show, a Modonna half time show, fancy TV commercials and party after party. Now, for the entertainment between these events, a football game is scheduled. Who is playing anyway?

StephenH
02-04-12, 06:18 PM
I don't much care about football, so it's just another Sunday for me. I'll be riding some in the afternoon.

Around here, they have a set of rides where people meet up in the various suburbs and ride into Dallas to watch the game.

The game starts at 6:30pm EST so unless you live in Hawaii there is plenty of time to get a ride in (unless you have a gymnastics meet to attend as I do).

I have to work a few hours tomorrow to catch up on stuff I didn't finish and make up some hours I missed. If it doesn't rain, I'll ride the bike to work. I'll definitely watch the game. I don't ride much at night.

Planning a mini feast and I have some Tap Room 21 Pale Ale from NY and some Smuttynose IPA from New England to sample to decide who I'm pulling for.

All citizens of Super Bowl City are required by law to watch the game.

Starts at 1:30 here in Subtropical Paradise, so plenty of time for a ride before or during. I figure I'll ride in the morning and use the afternoon to avoid the usual Sunday crowds in the supermarket and/or laundry room. Mahalo NFL, you should do this more often! :)

Ride to work, work, ride home from work, eat, watch the Super Bowl, try to get some sleep for Monday, when kids go back to school; I take 'em both to their bus stops, about 200 feet away. Then work again Monday.

That covers about the next 48.

I've gone for a ride during nearly every super bowl ever played and I don't plan on making this one an exception. Light traffic, just don't be on the route between booze and people's homes during halftime, what's not to like about the Super Bowl? I wonder which commercial will win.

Strangely, I didn't get a ride in the last time these two teams played in the SB. I had a chess match to oversee.

I never miss the Stuper Bowl. I used to enjoy it. But now it's mostly the perverse fascination of watching the steady downward slide of our culture. Here's a tip to enhance your enjoyment: try writing down a record of each and every commercial and when they occur during game time. This will increase your awareness of just how little actual football there is. Assuming you do not go mad of course.

I have a brand new mtb that needs to be taken on its maiden voyage, so I'll be riding it in the hills tomorrow. I did the same thing last year, only it was a road ride instead.

When I get home I'm going to edit the ride video. I never cared much for football, although the commercials can be funny.

Hi overthehillmedi,

Why do you have to make a choice? On the west coast the game doesn't start until 3:30p. My plan is to ride 65 miles and still be home in plenty of time to watch my beloved NY Giants. I've been a Giants fan since I was in the 4th grade so there is no way that I will miss the game.

Ride. Who cares about two east coast teams or football? Now if the TdF was on, or similar!!!

Personally, I no longer watch the NFL. All it has become is a bunch of spoiled rotten millionaire crybabies. Once guys get there the passion that they once had for the game seems to become lost. Complete waste of time.

As for the "Super Bowl". FAR too much hype surrounds it now with coverage on almost EVERY network starting weeks before the event. Making one sick and tired of hearing about it before it even starts. Then, once it DOES start you get to look forward to being inundated with tons of advertisements making the "game" last a lot longer than necessary.

And the halftime "show"?.....Don't you mean the lip-synched performance by whatever person happens to be chosen? You actually THINK that Madonna will really sing?......

As long as the weather is decent I'll take a nice, LONG ride.
