General Cycling Discussion - How do you clean your gloves?

Been riding for a few months now and still on my first pair of gloves. They're getting a bit gross (that's an understatement) and it's far past time to wash them. My question is how do I go about doing this? Part leather/part mesh for what it's worth.

I've got a couple of pairs, (3 pair of Fox Racing, 2 pair of Answer and 1 generic pair) I just throw in the washing machine with my colors and then I let them air dry! Don't know if this is good or bad, but it appears to have no negative affects on them to date! I just don't do it too often!

I do the same.

I machine wash mine and air dry them too. Don't throw them in the dryer. The heat is bad for any foam padding you might have in your gloves.

Another suggestion: wear your gloves and wash your hands thoroughly with bar soap. I have done this on tour and it works.

I don't know how you have lived so long without washing your gloves. I usually was mine after a couple of rides.

For my gloves or any of my cycling cloths and washable gear I wash them in the washer, it has a gentle hand wash setting. And I dry them in the dryer, it has a gentle low heat setting.

But unless your dryer has a low heat setting do not dry any kind of cycling clothing or wearable gear in the dryer. Any amount of heat above low will ruin your gear.

I also machine wash/air dry. One tip: make sure the velcro straps are "closed" or your gloves will latch onto other cycling clothes.

I throw them in the washer (cold water, regular cycle) and them let them air dry.

I look at it this way; they can't get any wetter in the washing machine that when I wear them.:)

I gave up on trying to wash my old fox gloves. The smell would come out but right after I would wear them, the smell would be back. I just decided to get a new pair of gloves.

You can clean them?

Mine go into the washing machine.

There are little netting bags you can buy that zip up to hold delicate bits and pieces. I throw my gloves in one of those before tossing it into the machine to avoid the velcro catching on other stuff.

Ditto, except I do not use the bags, and have never had a problem with the velcro.

yes, my answer would be the same the goes to the washing machine, and air dry only,

I'm with everyone else: in the washer on cold, with the velcro closed and air dry. And make sure the first (and possibly the second) time you wash them, wash with the colored clothing. Those black palms can bleed a bit, as I noticed on my hands after riding with new gloves.

i put my gloves, helmet, do-rag, warmers, etc -every once in a while i put them in the mud sink in the laundry room with some baking soda added in the water. swirl... leave for a while then wash..... the baking soda gets the smell out.

Just don't wear any. Then they are always clean as you wash your hands.
I've never had much truck with gloves after my first pair. What a pain.

Then too, there is the "camp fever" that attacks folks on the big group rides.
Folks head into those porta-jonnies with gloves on, then go get cut up oranges.

put them in the diswasher.. they don't get stuck to my clothes that way..lol
and they are sparling clean :p

I never get a chance to wash them. they eventually walk away on their own. I figure then that they have earned their freedom and I get another pair to torment and abuse.

You should not be "trying to wash them" :D :p. Trying will not get it done - the actual act of washing with soap will get the job done :) :D . Then the stink should go away :D . (Failed attempt at humor)

Today I found the ultimate cost-free way of washing them.
Get caught in a thunderstorm 5 miles from home. :)

Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) also works.

Hydrogyn Peroxide, Correct me if I am wrong but I think that one is to clean road rash, or skin wound, I know Because I have use that to cleanopen skin wound on me.....

I just dump mine in the washing machine once a week, regardless of how much sweat is in it!

Oscar, you should also dab a little betadine after using hydrogen peroxide.

I forgot to also place Betadine, so its the cotton balls, hydrogene Peroxide, Betadine on the flesh wound then the Tape.

Same stuff. What ever causes it to help torn skin seems to get the nasty smell out of cloth.
