Fifty Plus (50+) - Another senior moment...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

When I moved, I sold my Roubaix, and kept my Globe. I've never ridden the Globe much; it was a good grocery bike back in the old neighborhood.
At any rate, somewhere along the line, I removed my cyclometer from the Globe. Now that I'm back on the bike, I wanted to put it back on. Found it readily enough, surprisingly, since I actually put it where I wouldn't forget it, and I actually found it, which almost never is the case with this strategy.
Now here's the problem. The Cateye MITY 8, which I have right here in my hand, doesn't fit on the bracket on the bike! Huh??? WTF??? :(
It HAS to be the right cyclometer - but it isn't. It's the one I used on my Roubaix. And of course, it doesn't fit the bracket I have on the bike.
So, now I have a wired bracket but no cyclometer. I've searched high and low but think I must have lost the Globe's cyclometer after all. The only way to be sure is to buy another one, so that the original one will suddenly appear. :( That's how it usually works for me.
I'm getting ready to ride today, and have to face the horror of not knowing how slowly I'm going, or how far I didn't ride. I'll have to simply ride for the pleasure of riding.
I'm not sure if I can take it. :D

I know. That pleasure stuff sure is hard to take sometimes. :D

The slower you start the more you can improve. I'm slow so I get to spend more time on my bike.

That's so true, and that's actually what I thought about today on my ride. That, and how come my butt's so sore? I was taken back to my Trek 3900 days, riding my mountain bike on the streets and getting started on these pursuits.

Gary,
Maybe someone at BF, especially in 50+ has one that will work. Take pics so we can see if one of us has something that will work.

I had a senior moment with a cyclometer last year myself. I decided after many years to buy another one and picked up a wireless set-up to put on the Giant Seek 2. I was at home and watching a Youtube video of something and dumped the contents of the package on the table my laptop was on. Some of the parts ended up on the table and some on the laptop. No big deal. A minute later I noticed that the video had stopped. I figured my connection was just experiencing a glitch, but I could not get the computer to respond to anything. When I moved the few parts that landed on the computer to the side, I noticed that one of the pieces stuck to a metal basket attached to the table. It was then that I remembered that the sensor requires a magnet to make it work.
The magnet landed directly above my hard drive and nearly wiped it clean. I spent the next 4 1/2 hours reloading everything on the laptop to get it up and running again.

Senior moment might have been selling the wrong bike!:)

Agree 100%, but at the time, I needed the cash more than the bike.

If you can't quantify your ride how will you know whether or not you are having fun?

You say that like it's a bad thing.
I think bike computers are the work of the devil. Every time I put one of those gizmos on my bike, it turns every ride into a contest to ride farther or faster than the last time or I'm bummed with myself. Why buy something that's going to make you be bummed with yourself?

IT was said tongue in cheek. My real "goal" when I ride is to have fun. It is one of the few things that are fun AND gives me some health benefits too. Plus I like keeping track of numbers and such. But, at the end of the day, if it ain't fun, I ain't gonna do it for long. So I was kidding.
