Professional Cycling For the Fans - Contador Banhammered

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
And there it is -
Contador banned for two years, set to lose Tour title. (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5g8GoQI1-Ykg5-TNHYmu_uS6Bm8kw?docId=21ccefc1f6ca469b8ebefe191339b100)

I bet Schleck isn't exactly thrilled to win the Tour this way... nearly 2 years later.
And it the backdated ban is... well, not satisfying, I guess. For me, reading that a two-year ban would be enforced felt like justice was being served... but to hear that he's eligible for competition in 6 months diminishes that, somehow. Yeah, wins were stripped, but only being away for 6 months (and the sport being rid of him for only 6 months) feels light.

I honestly expected them to sweep this under the rug. Sort of a "Nothing to see here, move along, move along" thing.

I thought this was all going to be forgotten about too.
very light sentence but the length of time this has been going on I am no surprised of the outcome. A result is a result I guess.
No doubt will return for the Giro, maybe even the Olympics depending on dates.

This is just more bad press for our sport.
While I found his taking advantage of AS's dropped chain to be very unsporting this isn't the way I want that incident corrected.
Say "Hola" to Floyd for me Al.

Would you rather that it rested where it was - someone getting off scot-free despite failing a drug test and a joke of a trial from his home country?

The skinny shrek doesnt know how to shift, is that AC's fault? even he got the same problem like 3 or 4 times the same year, it is a race too. Do you think a F1, Indy car racing will wait for the other team to fix the car of the guy who is in second place?? NEVER!... or even american football team will hold to wait for the other's team quaterback until he is ready to go and play?? let me tell you man.. that is not going to happen...
Well he got banned now, and Shrek wont win the TDF again this year.

Makes me wonder if they didn't purposely draw this verdict out, let AC accumulate wins then hammer him, use him as an example.

I bet he doesn't even count it as a win.
More bad press for the sport doesn't help anyone.

He is suspended through early August. Olympics are out, first Grand Tour is the Vuelta a Espana, he will be eligible to ride in. BBC said Schleck would be awarded the Tour title for 2010, but no official announcement on this yet

This should have been over and done with a year and a half ago. Dragging it out all this time makes the sport look even worse than it already does, imo. And, not for nothin', but this is probably the only way Schleck ever wins the TdF. Again, imo.

Doesn't make sense. One, this thought is predicated on the certainty that he's going to rack up wins. Two, there were multiple governing bodies involved. Three, if you want to set an example, you come down hard immediately after the failed test and other riders don't see his face at a competition for two years.

I am surprised no one has bought up Armstrong yet .....

Maybe it took longer for Lance to get the bribe money.
There, I said it! Flame away! lol

Schleck didn't win...so theres no pride in that one, no gratification at the end of the race. This sucks. This whole process is ridiculous.

you're right, I personally don't think he will ever win, especially not this year considering the "flat" course. The powerhouses are going to wreck it this year.
Seems to me CAS should start sending out apologies to fans, riders, DS's, sponsors and anyone else effected by their poor handling of this case.
