I'm finally cranking out all these projects that I let drag on forever. I bought this 1969 Hercules Sports for my Father-In-Law back in May, 2010.

It was built by Raleigh and has a lot of parts that show that it is lower quality thank a typical sports. The worst feature is the 2 piece stem that is difficult to adjust. For the most part though, it's about what you would expect from a British 3 speed.

Great resto, Matt! How does he like it?

I haven't dropped it off yet. I am going to ride it to work for a couple of days and make sure I have everything bolted down tight. I went rode around for a few blocks then made some adjustments already. I jacked the seat way up after the pictures, it was killing my knees!

This looks really nice Matt. That cleaned up very nicely, though it was too horribly bad to start with. I actually have one that is nearly that bike's twin - size, color and chrome fenders. I just realized I don't have any pictures of it. The chrome fenders are nice to have. I snagged a set of NOS chrome fenders a while back that are slated for my 1959 Hercules Hawthorne project (http://www.flickr.com/photos/threefamilyalbum/sets/72157628091632401/), whenever I get that far! About that stem, I have several Raleigh stems laying around that I'd be happy to give you. It might have a little peppering, but is perfectly useable atmo. For you I'd even pick out the nicest one, if you choose to take me up on the offer. ;)

Thanks for the offer, but I think it'll be fine on there. I assume once he gets going it's going to be "set it and forget it". It's not really something that gets messed with much. It's just a minor annoyance for now.

Nice,

Thanks for the pic showing the seatpost bolt. I picked up a 70 lady's model Hercules this last weekend that had a hardware store substitute and so I was wondering what a real one looked like.

Glad it helped. It's pretty basic looking and much longer than it needs to be, they sure didn't pick it because it was pretty. None of my tools fit the bolt heads very well either since it is old and British.
