Commuting - :D I'm Commuting Now!

Well for a while ive been trying to fix up this old peugot with flat tubeless tires. my friend got a toys 'r us "bike" and i convinced him to give me his 80's double top tube raleigh (i think theres a name for those i cant remeber). I rode it home today and wow, it beats the hell out of public transit. I also trial bike (live might be a better verb though) and i hear its supposed to be great training. Basically ive 10km a day to school for the next 3.5 years, and i dont know if it could get any better. Its short enough to do during most winter days (this year has been really warm, barely dropping beolow -5 at all), long enough to give me some excercise, downhill on the way there, so i dont have to work when im tiered, and once im awake on the way back i can work a bit on the uphill. Just thought id give a hi and il probably be around here often, if i dont get hit by a car.

p.s. also any tips on actually restoring this bike would be helpful, i need to put some 27" tires onto a frame that used to have 700c's and i might end up alos canabalizing one caliper.

Does the Peugeot have tubeless tires or are the racing sew-ups. I dont understand why you would want to put 27" tires onto a 700c frame - it is usually the other way around. If the Peugeot can take 700c, then it would be a good idea to spread the rear end to take a 7 speed freehub.

sorry, im used to mountain bikes, they are tubular tires, not tubless, and my friend got rid of his 27" bike and gave it to me. considering how much a lugged steel frame with 30 year old components is worth, there is no point in buying decent wheels for it.

also, anyone know if the axle length for the two bikes would be diffrent. i think the only reson it's tight to get the wheel in is that the rack/reinforcer on the top is acting as a brake booster and flexing the frame inwards.

Well, I'd say it's worth whatever you're hoping to get out of it. You should be able to pick up some used 700C wheels on the cheap - check your LBSes or any bike co-ops in the area, even Ebay. Also, you can't get studded tires for 27" wheels, so if you're hoping to do this year-'round, that's something to consider, too.
