Mountain Biking - go pro boom mounts

whipped up a couple of boom mounts for the go pro

and then a helmet boom. Still needs a little work. Need to figure out a counter weight system that isnt hanging a 5 pound dumbbell off the back. Doesnt look pretty but i think im going to be able to get some great footage with it.

How long is the boom off of the helmet?

We need someone to video you videoing you. Cool ideas though. I'm still trying to figure out a way to mount my Blackberry on my handlebar.

prob somewhere around 30". Didnt really measure it. Cut it so i could just barely reach the camera when I have it on.

Think you'll have any issues in tighter sections?

remains to be seen. Probably though. Unfortunately I am without a bike right now to test it. Gonna try and borrow my buddies rig monday for a test run.

I've seen some pretty creative stuff involving a backpack to stick an L-shaped pvc construction in. The guy had it set up so that the backpack held one end stable, & the other attached to a strap on his shoulder. Looked uncomfortable to me, but it looks like that could be too so it might me worth looking into.

I need to get a gopro, right now im saving for a Canon 60D but maybe after that I'll pick up a gopro

^ it looks neat but I wouldn't want to see too much of it in a video. Rather just as something spliced in to break up the POV shots and fixed filming locations.

Interesting how that one pivots. mine is fixed so itll stay head on rather than rotating around. Rain rain and rain today so didnt get a chance to shoot footage. I did solve the counter weight problem by drilling a hole partially past the midway point of the tube and filling the opposite end with fishing weights and plugging it. Seems to work pretty well. Now i just need some good weather to test it. Also had the idea of mounting another go pro to the back of the pole facing back. Might try and give that a shot tomorrow as well.

Will also try and get some photos up of my zip tie monstrosity by tomorrow.

A little test footage from today. Cut about a foot off the camera end. The angle isnt as cool but it sits/ride much better now.

used an old mini pump holder and zip ties to attach it to the helmet. Used a folded up old tube underneath to insulate and absorb vibration. Looks ghetto but worked pretty well.

Looking good! Might have to give this one a try soon...I think it could potentially look pretty cool inverting that setup--having the camera face forward with the pole jutting out further in the back.

This is going to be great. I'm waiting for that knowing look of terror when you find out you're coming down on 15 feet on that 16-foot double :D.

Looks good to me. I've been toying with ideas on various camera setups lately, including a rear-facing helmet cam like this. Definitely a fun angle.
