i have an old cannondale road bike laying around and im wondering if it is doable making it a legit cx bike like cantis and all

Not really.

No real way to put cantis on it without major modifications (and even then it's not really doable) and I'm guessing you won't be able to fit tires any wider than x28. Best bet would be to sell it to fund a proper cross frame. Those old C'dales have a following and yours looks to be in nice shape so it should be worth a couple hundred bucks.

Pretty much this. You could change the fork and all to fit tires and new brakes, but you can't really change the butt unless you change the whole frame. That's like buying a new bike. CX bikes have tires usually wider than 28 (usually 32), and I don't think your road bike has enough clearance to even fit a 28. If you really want CX bike, then you should sell that bike to fund for your brand new CX bike.

That's true too. The TS does say he would want to convert it, and I could interpret that as CX bike not having to have to be new.
