i saw this on ebay the other day..

is a carbon fiber mt bike a good ideA? and i guess a better question is, is buying that bike a good idea?

i did search and i did read that thread. but you guys just talked about scratches and how it was over kill for that guy to get a CF bike to ride around campus. and how if it ever breaks it explodes. but never really talked about how CF would do with mt bikes

You didn't read carefully enough. We talked about how CF if made properly and from a reputable builder can serve fine in a MTB role.
