Hi, I live on the sunshine coast where the road crews love putting salt and deicing goo on the roads whether it is needed or not making a fine mess of bicycles. Am considering a move to Victoria regional area, but would like to know if it's a problem.
Of course it's necessary when there is ice, but around here, it is overkill and most cars do not have proper tires, so accidents need preventing.

Victoria normally doesn't even salt its roads until after there's snow on them.

Depends on where you are. There are 14 different local govts and they manage their own area. Main roads will get salt or liquid. Side roads where most of us ride do not. The goose does not get anything so slid outs happen. The good news is that it does not snow much. Clear skies after rain are more hazardous due to icing.
