Did the Palm Springs tour/102 miler and it was great, well except the first 20 miles uphill with a gail sandstorm. Besides the sandstorm nothing to report negatively, easy sailing, 3000 ft elevation gain. Once we started down hill the wind was in our backs, got to 47 mph at one point, trying to catch up with my group because I am a clyde and this clyde sucks going up hill. I did pretty well for my second century, last time it took me total of 11 and half hours elapsed time, this one was 7 hours 45 minutes with a 15.6 average. Here is my garmin report below.

It must have felt pretty good after all of the climbing was done. Well done...thanks for sharing.

Yes it was great after the climbs and I rode it prior so knew of the rewards. The first 10 miles had a good number of people turning around, the wind and sandstorm were really bad, the windmills were going full blast. Must admit, really thought about ending it the first 10 miles.

Wife and I rode the 56 (actually 63 mile) ride on the tandem. Those first miles were a bear and it took a lot of work, not just pedaling, but keeping the tandem upright and on the road. It was a character-building experience and we'll do it again in 2013, but the Century as we did in 2011. Certainly a reasonable first 100K or Century without the wind, but I can't imagine how discourage the wind was for many of the first-timers.

That was down hill and me trying to find my group after being dropped on the climb. I caught up with them on mile 70. Taking Beanz GMR 101 class helped a lot. :) :)
